Because he cant take responsibility for getting gout by eating shellfish, red meat, no vegetables, and alcohol everyday. It's not his fault. Since his aunt had gout it obviously was her fault. It makes sense if you don't think about it. Just listen and believe.

Oh, the reason he thinks he got a hereditary disease from his dad's sister is because he is a moron. He probably thinks that since Kat's last name is Burnell she is now 50% Italian.

So gout is as hereditary as diabetes or obesity. I was under the assumption that you got diabetes and obesity from eating unhealthy all the time but apparently you just get that way from your relatives.

I guess it makes sense since Phil's muscular physique was inherited genetically from his dad being a former body builder.

Rate me stupid but I never realized this blatantly obvious fact. Now I'm not sure if Phil looks stupid, or me. The heredity clearly doesn't add up. No aunt or uncle can ever give you any disease.

"I just don't like when people bring it [gout] up as an insult. It's actually hereditary, my aunt had it, which I didn't know. She apparently had it her whole life and didn't tell anybody. We just found out last year. MTCDood says *boyish giggles* "Hashtag Thanks Aunt."

Nothing in that statement says she gave him gout. My interpretation of the "thanks aunt" at the end and the blame he placed on her is that he was implying that had he known his aunt had gout he would have proactively changed his diet to mitigate any flare-ups.
 
Phil also said in that same conversation that he doesn't have gout anymore.

Apparently his gout just went away but his poor aunt had it her entire life.

This is giving too much credit to Phil's thought process. Phil thinks he inherited gout from his aunt. Phil doesn't know how things like that work. Phil has also said he has a bad back because his dad has a bad back. Phil claimed he was muscular because his dad was a bodybuilder. So we can argue about semantics or you can just know Phil thinks his gout came from his aunt.
 
An old friend of mine's Pops had gout. A combination of all you would expect; He was a cab driver so much like Phil he sat on his ass all day for work. Would come home, eat the wrong foods and drink a lot when the shift rota allowed for it. Same exact lifestyle with little to no exercise in his daily routine. Rather than make more healthy lifestyle changes, they simply moved house to a pad with no stairs so he had to struggle a bit less going to the bathroom/to bed. That one's for free Phil.. downsize into a smaller bungalo and save that puffer fish foot of yours some trouble. ;)


As with a lot of of Phil's weird tics and habits I do believe a bunch of things he does (probably unconsciously) aside from say water bottle crushing into the mic stem to some degree from his own self-imposed isolation. Sure he's been belching and snorting on camera from the word go, but as the years have went on he's developed more habits or at least the list of odd behaviors became more and more apparent. Rocking, finger sniffing, leg tremors etc.. when it comes to the hair on his head and chin I considered the idea that he may also suffer from trichotillomania - pulling one's hair out as a coping mechanism although It extends beyond easy diagnosis as an enxiety disorder and is known to cover a wide emotional spectrum. It's known to be a habitual response to boredom, loneliness, frustration, anger and even excitement. True we don't see Phil physically sit and do any such obvious pulling on camera but I've often wondered if the patchy beard and the way he sometimes appears to sit and tug at it is an indication of something he does more frequently behind da scenes when he knows no one's watching.

People who suffer from this disorder tend to focus on specific target areas and only in more extreme cases do sufferers seem to go hell for leather and pull out all of their hair. Chances are Phil is simply going bald but I also considered the possibility he's sat there in isolation for years now late at night plucking hairs out of his scalp and using the old greaser slicked back look to cover it up.

It's a stretch but I thought I'd add it to the neverending pile.
