My guess: Dragon's Dogma fans are in large part Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Fans, which had no MTX, and perhaps they are also not CAPCOM fans, so they don't know "what to expect" from Capcom games. People could probably cope with all of it much more easily if the game didn't have performance issues out the ass on top of all of it.
My evidence: Me. Don't play Resident Evil or DMC, and bought Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the PC when it was on sale and fell in love with it. I did not preorder 2, I anticipated the game to have something wrong with it, but not because I know Capcom, rather because I know the games industry and AAA gaming. I will not be buying this game.
I don't care how normal it is for Capcom to be greedy, slimey money-grubbers. I am not a consoomer. I sincerely hope this game fails spectacularly and they never make another one. And if you are correct on this being just Capcom's M.O., I hope Capcom dies a horrible death and has to sell all their franchises for a dollar each.
What is the name of the level of hatred past "I would kill them all by slowly flaying each one and feeding them their own necrotic flesh until they die from eating their own necrotic flesh"
because I need a new description for how much I fucking hate games Journalists now.
What's really infuriating to me is the fact that exercising your customer rights has been called "review bombing" for some time now by game "journalists".
I decided to bite the bullet and buy the game. im not wasting my off day doing nothing damn it! Before i talk about the game itself, i will make it clear. yes, what Capcom is doing is outright awful and dose nothing but put the game in a bad light. Denuvo is a blight on the gaming scene and olny exist to make games run worse. The day-one micro transactions they been doing for more then a decade at this point needs to stop! Still only having one character you can play as is bullshit (yes, its the same as the first one but you could get around that by storing old saves on a USB but that no longer seems to be case with two thanks to the cloud save) is just silly. Some have issues running the game but from my own experience the game has been running just fine. this is coming from a PC with 107k IC CPU and a 3080 GC. pretty strong build but far from the strongest. Not entered the big city yet so i cant comment on it but will soon. the game is really rough in some places and i hope future patches and updates are made to make it more stable and put in some new content.
Now, to the game itself. Five hours in and so far, its pretty good. feels like im playing an enchanted edition of the first game. started as a mage beacuse magic is not only fun, but gets real good later on. the class is already different from the first game. mages now has their own heal button instead of a heavy attack with their cane. They also have the ability to quicken their spells which has been a godsend and saved the class from being a support. mages now can deal damage that much faster and gives them more mobility. levitate has been buffed, going even higher. if i have to pick a negative, its that you have less skill slots then before, feeling like you cant have all the spells you want so you either have two mages to cover your bases or deal with it. i also kinda miss fire ball. it just had this satisfying feeling when hitting something and the flamethrower is bad against faster enemies. I went into a cave up north and encountered Slime enemies that cant be hurt physically. I can imagine alot of people getting filtered but since im playing a mage, me (and my pawn) obliterated those Slims no issue. I also killed my first big monster (cyclops).
overall, im enjoying myself so far and cant wait to play more.
I always feel like when games come out these days, I have my experience of playing it, and then the next day when I check the Internet and see that the entire thing is burning down, there's everyone else's experience.
Huh - for how much I was hoping they wouldn't fuck this up, I totally forgot the game was releasing. Considering they Fucked It Up, bullet dodged there.
As for the MTX, devs and publishers would stop forcing them in if people would stop buying them. Unfortunately, Gamers are fucking retarded and gobble this shit up, and honestly deserve what they get.
Silver lining - with this bullet dodged, I might finally be able to chew through some of my backlog...
So I’m just wondering, other than microtransactions and technical issues, those are the obvious, how’s the game past that? I’ve only played a few hours. Is the actual game itself even worth my time?

The slimes aren't as tilting as the Griffon that's hanging around. With the Slimes I just shield challenge and lead them into streams of fire from my mages. Its not hacking and slashing, but its satisfying to beat it that way in its own right.

So I've not got the best rig: I haven't had any major graphical issues or frame drops after tweaking the settings and forcing the game to run at max 60FPS.
In terms of microtransactions, until my cousin mentioned them to me on Telegram this morning, I didn't even realize there were microtransactions in the game.
Call me a consoomer or whatever, but I DD1 is one of the highlights of the 360 era and my early twenties, so I just bought DD2 without putting much thought into it. I didn't even realize there were microtransactions. Plus the game hasn't prompted me to buy anything within the game itself at all in the first 4-5 hours, so really, if I hadn't checked the internet this morning, I wouldn't have even been aware of the microtransactions.

The numbers appear that its not gamers, but a small sub section they call whales. Most people will not pay anything to MTX, but a small number will. But an even smaller number, well they will buy everything and pump huge amounts of cash into the game.
Its not gamers that are the problem, its a subset of Bossman type gambling addicts that pump up the numbers. They will never stop doing it because they can make shit loads of money exploiting those with addiction issues.
Thats the real story really, its the direct and malicious targeting of addicts. Kinda like how FIFA for years used gambling to target children, then went to court and just paid off the legal system and got away with it.
Pirate the game, in fact pirate all games. Pretty quick you will realise these types of games are not even worth pirating, and you can ignore most of the slop that comes out without feeling you are missing out, because you already know what a turd it is anyway.
The fuck are you talking about? Pathfinder Kingmaker, Pillars of Eternity, Baldurs Gate (All of them), Arcanum, Underrail, Dark Souls, Elden Ring, etc. All of those games from mostly indie studios could figure out how to give you the option for you to make multiple save files for multiple characters. They could have simply given the players the option but they didn't and surprisingly there is a microtransaction to help you fix a problem that they themselves made. It's not that complicated is it?
I disagree with that, most people that weren't already fans of the game are going to look at the overwhelmingly negative reviews and just not buy the game. Do you think that the general audience is going to start reading reviews? No, they are just going to look at the simple red coded message that says that most people think it's shit and they'll keep scrolling through their store page. The average consumer doesn't look that deeply into reviews unless they already knew or were planning on buying the game.

That's exactly the category that I fall into. I bought Dark Arisen for dirt cheap and enjoyed my time with it. I felt confused when people told me that the first one had microtransactions since I didn't see that.
The only game I ever pre-ordered was Elden Ring. If Fromsoftware ever goes down the same rabbit hole the majority of the AAA industry is now heading it'll be so over.
The fact that there are still people who find this acceptable is shocking. Do their brains work differently than mine? Do their eyes process movement in a fundamentally different way?
Schizo micro-transaction prediction: in another 5-10 years we will see games where you buy a license for a single play-through and have to buy another one via DLC if you want to play again if these trends continue.
The only MTX in this game are the same ones that were in the first one. Completely worthless "boosts" like the enhanced starter weapons, a one time use book that lets you change your entire appearance, and a camping kit and some jewelry item that isn't even good. And of course the rift crystal packs if you're an utter retard.
And you wouldn't even know these existed unless you look for them in the playstation store from the start screen for example.
Completely worthless and unnecessary and the game doesn't even advertise they exist. So sperg away at shit that doesn't matter I guess. This is how the industry has been for what, 14 years? It's never gonna change because retarded little kids will beg mom & dad for an xbox/playstation/steam card so they can buy extra crap.
TLDR: Im having fun with the game, and get to laugh at autists screeching. I stay winning
I've been immensely enjoying the game itself and haven't had any glaring issues, at least none that make me piss and shit and cum and cry on the internet. Game did crash when I was running away from an ogre, ran into a horde of oxen, then a griffin swooped down and started bird up-ing, then a bunch of gobs joined in. That with all the magic flying around made the game kill itself. But I reloaded and it went fine the 2nd time.
The simplified armor and clothing system is gay but whatever, I can get over it. The real issue is the inflation, when it comes to gear. Gold just doesn't go as far as it did in DD1. But it seems you also get Gold dumped on you left and right. Kinda evens out, sorta.
The animations for shit are pretty damn nice, and things feel appropriately weighty. Basically like a more polished DD1 as far as the combat goes. Losing some skill slots is a bummer but mashing some of them into core skills is neat and I like it. Tusk toss and mystic knights riposte for example are just regular core skills.
And the game itself looks pretty good as far as I'm concerned. The people I've seen say it looks just like DD1 are either blind, retarded, or don't remember what the first game looks like without as many graphics mods crammed into it as possible.
My biggest gripe is honestly that the beginning/intro isn't nearly as fuckin cool as DD1. But the Dragon Heart Eating scene is still kino.

Most people have low entertainment standards and will just defend whatever is the status quo. Like Ricky above said, it's just how the industry is, so that means he'll accept it.
It's funny how you can tell how few ppl are playing on PC rn when you go into the Rift and see zero meme Pawns. Haven't seen a single abomination yet.
Game runs okay on my setup (no crashes/bugs yet), but I have a superhuman level of tolerance for shitty performance. I've been having fun despite the performance issues.
Hope people can get refunds if they want them. It took me an hour to get to the first city Vernworth after doing some fixes on my system, even with skipping most of the cutscenes. Can't imagine how rage-inducing it would be if people's refund was refused because their game registered them for playing 2 hours when it kept crashing, setting them back.
As for making a new character it's stupid but simple
You turn off cloud saves and then delete the saves that don't start with "SS1_" from Steam\userdata\(YourSteamID)\2054970\remote\win64_save
Then when you're in game you just turn cloud back on and select "local copy" when steam says there's a conflict.
Edit: Also the Art of Metamorphosis to change how your character looks costs 500 rift crystals in the capital.
Ok so how bad is it? I've seen people say you need to pay to make new characters, it has denuvo even though it's single player and alot of other bad shit.
