i've always believed the biggest threat to gaming was its corporatization. yeah the sjw shit makes games less fun/more annoying but it's easy enough to simply not play those games.
They're both symptoms stemming from the same core issue of the company having to care more about share price and investment fads rather than expertise and quality in their core business.

This game is going to be really fun when I buy it for 20 bucks in 5 years.
Being 2-8 years behind the curve is unironically the best way to experience gaming. You get to play all the Ultimate/GOTY/Definitive/Enhanced Editions after everything's been patched, software and the hardware to run it are dirt-cheap, and the passage of time separates the good game wheat from the hype train chaff.

you know the character creator being locked behind microtransaction is bad and everything but are we really not going to talk about how poorly optimized the game is. I have a mid computer that can run cyberpunk well on medium to low settings but dragon's dogma can barely run for shit with all the settings low it's especially bad in cities where I have to endure 20 fps.

Won't even render the floor. can't have shit!
Edit: I now am getting much better performance for some reason but the ground is still missing

Since the early days of cuda compute nvidia pimped AI routines on GPU. Mostly as a way to enable more complex behaviors.

But yes the statement makes little sense on its own so I wonder what it means.
After research: I'm pretty sure nobody fully knows, but the theory is that the NPC AI routines are partly to blame but also the fact that every NPC has full physics interaction as they move around. So the physics load is higher.

Now that's.... interesting. I'm not sure if they had specific interactions (walking through/past cloth, etc) they wanted to deal with with this, but usually you want to remove physics except for specific scripted actions because while you'd think that the AI-with-physics option would be more immersive it's usually the opposite because your AI NPCs then just tend to have more accidental physics collisions than a Chinese Liveleak video.

My policy of "never preorder games" has saved me yet again. Hopefully some better optimization is coming. Maybe there will be a cracked version that doesn't require running Denuvo. Why is that even needed for a single player game? To protect Capcom's microtransactions? Fuck this shit.

I fully expect people to start covering their tracks and saying they never supported Dragons Dogma 2.
That probably won't happen, most of the shills (Troonhunter, Faggotcowboy etc) are on Capcom's payroll. They went all in on the eceleb bribing since Monster Hunter World.

This game is going to be really fun when I buy it for 20 bucks in 5 years. Shame it sucks right now though, I had a lot of fun with the first one.
Pretty much, the game will probably fantastic once they fix the performance (:optimistic:) and add more content (:optimistic::optimistic:)

I don't get why people on every forum I visit are coping with how much Crapcom have butchered this game just to nickle and dime people for something as basic as character editing. Just toss this game into the garbage heap along with Payday 3 and Suicide Squad as a game that's been killed because of over-monetization.
"Evolve is going to be fixed and make a comeback any day now."

i mostly agree with you, with the small caveat being i think the sjw shit is a symptom of the corportization core issue.

if we lived in bizarro world and right wing politics happened to be in vogue, i believe it would still be hamfistedly shoved into video games in ways that tank their quality but would be considered good for sales.

The framing of this as some sort of debacle just feels like dogpiling to me and after seeing anti-DD shills being outed on 4chan for months before launch it has my schizo brain working.

These points have all probably been made elsewhere in the thread but the DLC practices have been the norm for Capcom for years at this point. Purchasing in game currency? at least since DMC4. Having to pay to edit your characters appearance? at least since Monster Hunter World. Purchasable progression items were notably in the latest RE4 remake. All of these thing are objectionable but they've largely been normalized within Capcom games. Is this just a Straw That Broke The Camel's Back sort of thing?
Denuvo is and has been objectionable but Capcom regularly has it implemented on release.

Most of the complaints I see are largely things that have been normalized in the industry as a whole and are expected. Poor performance on launch, DLC practices(covered more specifically above), $70 price being pushed, Denuvo, Single Save(maybe more heinous this time around).
Why does it feel like people are just upset about this now? Or am I just following the game too closely?

I'm sure it's mostly about piracy, but the Japanese also have this weird thing about seething over the idea that somebody somewhere might be using their software in a way they haven't explicitly authorized. Even if it affects nobody else and even if that inflexibility costs them sales, you do it their way or you don't play at all.

I don't know if it's a cultural value thing of a collectivist society or what.

People always bitch about these things when a new high-profile game comes out just before they buy it by the million along with every speck of microtransaction like the good consoomers they are. Then the next game comes out and they do it all over again.

Capcom is dead.

Me, a year ago:
If this is the advertising campaign you're going with, then you've already 100% killed my interest. Vtubers are fucking cringe, but I'd still take 1000 of them over faggots in dresses. Eat shit Capcom, I won't be buying your games again. I'll pirate every last one out of spite, in fact.
This was in response to Exoprimal and the advertising campaign Capcom held using DRAG QUEENS to advertise to Americans. The writing has been on the wall, clear as fucking day, for quite a while. It is actually baffling how memory holed this got.

Don't be a doomer they said. Based Itsuno will deliver the kino they said. It'll be everything we wanted from DDDA. Ignore all the warning signs, they don't count this time. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Sigh looks like a bunch of angry white men are upset at video games again. What is it this time? Women? Minorities? Can’t spread white nationalism over VOIP? So sick of this. Buy the game and the DLC and stop being so entitled you stupid goymers.

I'm a Capcom Shill and neurotic retard but I think the blame for the drag queen event lies more specifically on Capcom USA and particularly on Andy Wong although it seems Capcom JP might've been permissive of it.
I will continue to bring up Andy Wong in Capcom related threads due to my autism.

ALLL of Exoprimal was memory holed cause no one gives a shit about it. Having the trannies advertise the game in American certainly did not help but no one was ever gonna play Exoprimal.

Kind of funny looking back on comments speculating why Capcom was talking about their plans to implement anti-cheat and anti-modding measures to all their games, including singleplayer games.
The impression many people had was that Capcom wanted to prevent things like NSFW mods after some mild controversy involving one of their shitty fighting games.
Turns out it was actually because they're doubling down on microtransactions and the proposed anti-cheat measures would be there to prevent people from cheating for free. :story:

I was a massive Capcom shill in my early teens. They were the company I bought the most games from. Then dmc: Devil May Cry happened and I boycotted them for some years. I think Megaman 11 was the first title I had bought from them in years. Since then, I've only bought the Battle Network Collection and DD2.

Them being the first big Japanese company to Westernize really bugged me. It wasn't just dmc, but all the lame stuff outsourced to literally who Canadians added up over time. Even stuff like RE, while still having a big American influence, still had some weird Japanese charm. But, I think a lot of Japanese devs lose something quintessential when they ditch all the weirdness that made people like them to begin with.

Publicly traded entertainment industry was a mistake.

this shareholder bullshit about pushing out unfinished games and a ton of day 1 dlc is, i feel, the actual existential threat to gaming
In this case I disagree. If I do buy the game the forced diversity will bother me more than corpo single use microtransactions. Even the cat people are 'black-coded' with shit hairstyles.
The whiplash about DD2 is surreal. I don't think I've seen hype for a game die as quick. Even No Man's Sky and Starfield had a honeymoon period. Yesterday DD2 was being hyped by everybody and their dog, that it was going to be the best thing since free parking for sliced bread. I wake up this morning and find the game is literally Hitler and two nukes weren't enough.

What I'm interested in now is how many people promoting the game have issued retractions, and how quickly. Iirc Asmongold was in the game and spent months as the conductor of the hype train.

I fully expect people to start covering their tracks and saying they never supported Dragons Dogma 2. For what it's worth, I was surprised at the hype DD2 was getting given how mediocre the first game was.
From the few clips I saw, Asmon was filtered by DD1. He didn't actually play it until a couple weeks before 2's release. Maybe it was just an act idk that guy is an annoying fag. Plenty of other people hyped it up without playing the original.

Unlike those games the justified negativity around DD2 entirely centers everything besides the core gameplay. The worst I've heard about the core game is that its a remake of the first. The performance and mtx problems don't require me to play 5 hours and find out the game's shallow as a puddle like those examples. Some people will swear the game off, others will forget or play it once the hype dies down(and the optimization is treated :optimistic: ). Assuming Capcom doesn't continue to step in the shit, opinions will normalize over time. Or it becomes a Fallout 76 situation where they drag out the shitstorm for months/years.

Synthetic Man's delisted first impressions stream (DD2 starts around 50 minutes in) If anyone's interested:

Dragon's Dogma 2 launches to "Mostly Negative" review bombing after microtransactions reveal, and man, what a bummer
What is the name of the level of hatred past "I would kill them all by slowly flaying each one and feeding them their own necrotic flesh until they die from eating their own necrotic flesh"

because I need a new description for how much I fucking hate games Journalists now.
