Nips in the JP chat had a meltdown when they announced they were changing the traditional command system for DQ12. Hope the japanese bitch enough like it happened with DQ9. Simultaneous western releases are fucking monkey paw-tier shit.

wasn't the whole point of DQ (and part of it's success) that the basic gameplay never changes?

This, combined with the whole "command system" thing, is getting me worried. The series was just getting popular in the west, and now they're gonna kill it.
Yeah, not gonna lie I'm a little leery myself. The lightheartedness was what I found the most refreshing about Dragon Quest, and saying the next one's gonna be dark has me a little nervous. But I'm gonna hold off on any judgements until we see something like an actual trailer or gameplay.

They threw served dog parts at Square Enix HQ over DQ 9.

Yes but 12 is supposed to appeal more towards western fans. They already modernized the DQ style for the movie they made. So I don't think we're going to get as drastic a departure as many are expecting.

lmao コマンドバトル一 is trending in Japan

Probably Square-Enix believe that the mainline Dragon Quest after DQ11 can meet better success in the west by changing the formula, even if it means alienating the japanese audience in return. In any case, SE needs to get over the fact Dragon Quest is NEVER going to take off in the west like it did in Japan

Dragon Quest does take dark turns in spite of the overall lightheartedness, it's just that the localization cranks up the comedy up to eleven.
However, I would be furthermore worried if DQ12 takes a sudden full change in visuals and mood once again because SE caters to gaijin piggus

Square Enix has become poisoned by all the lefty westerners they let in.

Also what is it with businesses killing the sure fire thing chasing after a cryptid market that doesn't exist?

People said the same thing about Monster Hunter when they saw the first trailer of World, that didn't turn out to be the case and after 3 installments the series is doing better than it ever was.

Square Enix hasn't been slacking with any of it's prominent releases, the one thing they've all done well is the battle system. Granted we need to see more than just a logo which looks like it's hinting at that 12 is a continuation of 11. But to go full doomer because of CHANGE doesn't really make sense when many longstanding series did just that and the games turned out well.

as far as changing visual styles from the traditional, that already happened and it didn't do badly in japan.

The fact that 3 is getting a western release probably means they're going to go big into the history of the franchise if 12 hits it out of the park. Similar to what they did with Final Fantasy and those re-releases of 1,2,4,5, and 6 when 7 got popular.

Having a modern release of 5 would be a godsend.

That doesn't matter to me. They unleashed the Handler upon the world. The crack addicted assistant that steals shit from your chest while you're out hunting and constantly does the complete opposite of what an experienced handler would do. She was played cutesy funny and it didn't work because her face can only haunt dreams. At least there are mods.

Some of her costumes remove her baggy eyes. With everyone else looking normal with the other guild girls, I just suspect they over textured her.

She looks rather normal in her concept art.

to be fair squeenix has been retarded for a long while.
chasing the shekels with gameplay changes don't really align with sjw shit imo.

Oh, no, I'm saying lefty westerners are poisoning them with a focus on western mindsets. The chasing of shekels however is universal.

You can't really claim that with Dragon Quest though, it was birthed from the loins of Ultima itself. It's very origins are western.

A more western dragon quest would be like Quest for The Avatar or either of the Underworld games.

The majority of the games have heavy western influence already, except everyone is drawn like Goku.

This is true. I can, however, claim that they're taking a progressive stance towards it by changing it instead of the general conservative stance Japan usually has where "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Japan does come up with some new shit and crazy shit, but ultimately when it comes to established things they tend to keep traditional. This sudden change strikes me more as a western influence than an eastern one.

Nah it's coming from internally at Square itself, they've had a ton of success perfecting Action RPGs even marrying them with traditional turn based mechanics. The games also did well in all territories.

I mean if you look at their releases post Final Fantasy 15 they really have turned shit around. You have the Mana series that was revived, you have Nier, Kingdom hearts 3, you have Final Fantasy, and they're even testing the waters with Saga.

Hm... I dunno, they haven't really made anything grab my attention. I don't think I've bought anything of theirs since Sleeping Dogs and FFXIV.

Maybe I'm just left behind.

Even though Final Fantasy 7 Remake was just part of the story, it's still a full game and they did it justice. The side quests are more interesting than what was there in the original game, you'll fight stuff like Behemoths which didn't appear until the last few areas in the original.

The Nier remaster and Nier automata are both good and Trials of Mana is very good as well. Kingdom hearts 3 functioned the best out of any of the previous games and had the best combat.

Eh, none of that really intrigued me. I guess I'm just not their customer anymore.
