I don't believe you and I think you're just making it up.

Farming mini medals as a positive? You reached too far bro. Do you even know what mini medals are? :lit:
I already had the mini medal map completed by the time I went to the trial dungeon where they drop.

It took like no real effort to get extra, I would get into fights with a group of 4 slot machines and I at least got one medal every other fight. If you max out boomerangs you'll kill entire groups within a single turn.

You wanna talk about a real grind? Try getting all your stats up to 999 with seeds.

No way man, I got two people to 999 str and I could feel my soul leaving my body.

And STR is the fastest stat to 999 IIRC.
It is, but if you max out luck first IIRC it increases the later drop rates.

As far as I know, the Switch version ditched the Pachisi boards, the monster medal collecting and the Ice Caves bonus dungeon. If that stuff matters to you.

Still debating picking up the physical collection. I own the NES and GBC versions, but having an updated copy with QoL improvements on a modern console would definitely be nice.

That lack of bonus dungeon and Pachisi board will just make me play the GBC version again. You could get some really good stuff from the Pachisi game like one of the end ones where you get a sweet meteor whip. If they had the two stuff, I could abide the meh graphics on the characters.

I bought Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3 on the Switch and I just beat the first two. Dragon Quest 1 was pretty easy. Playing only as the hero was surprising at first and a little disappointing, but lorewise helps establish him as being fairly badass. Dragon Quest 2 was more of what I expected from the franchise, but gave me a bit of trouble though, especially the final area random insta-kill attacks are annoying as hell. A small issue I had, which I can forgive since they're old games is that the locations aren't labeled on the map which made travelling a little annoying since I didn't remember the names that well.

Just started Dragon Quest 3 and the upgrade so far between 2 and 3 is amazing. Being able to set your party's classes, stats and gender to your preferences is pretty nuts. Even got control over the battle AI and marching order. Then there's the personalities each character has which I know effects the leveling, so now of thinking of characters getting sub-optimal personalities. I'm actually a little overwhelmed by the options because I just want to try out all the classes, but don't want to keep cycling out my party.

I like 1 and 2, but Dragon Quest 3 is one I'm gonna have to replay a few times by the looks of it

Damn dude, you're outpacing me it's nuts. I just got to Tantegel in DQ2.

You know what though? So far I kinda prefer the first one over the second and a lot of it is because its lack of features, such as multiple party members, ironically made it more unique to me. There's something strangely engaging about only using one character that can do basically everything and I kinda wish there were more games like that. I mean granted, it is bare as hell. I never used any offensive magic, and the one-man-party becomes a lot less interesting when you realize you only ever fight one enemy at a time, but all the same I kinda want another game like that and I'm a little disappointed the series didn't capitalize on that.

Yeah I got the games last week but I like them more than I thought I would, so I've been going in hard. I've also found using the wizard in Tantegel as a makeshift inn is a sweet deal if you want save a bit of gold

Yeah, I agree DQ1 is definitely an unique experience and I honestly appreciate it more while DQ2 is more of your traditional rpg. I'd be down for something similar, but they'd have do something about the enemy encounters. One on One fights weren't that much of a threat as long as you didn't accidentally venture to a higher level area to soon and might not capture a modern audience. But with extra opponents, the trick would be to find the right balance so the player's not just getting ganked and not getting bored fighting sponges. I bet there's some indie rpg that managed something similar but hell if I know.

And I got the first two like two weeks ago. Granted I've been busy with other stuff, but still.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I realize how difficult it'd be making a one-man-party RPG and make it actual interesting to people outside diehard fans of JRPGs. The only one I can think of is Undertale but that doesn't count if you ask me. Just the sheer level of balancing that would have to go into it is probably too much for most people, let alone experienced teams of developers.

Even though I might stick with my loved GBC port, I am happy to see how people here loving DQ3 from the rerelease. Its probably my favorite RPG from the NES period.

Even though the one i'm about to finish is the dreaded Switch (and thus iOS) version, if anyone else were to play I'd recommend the GBC version simply for having more in it.

I'm having fun with XI. Just got to the town after Gondolia.
I'm not quite clear on pep powers. There's a quest where you gotta use Luminary and Serena to use Cure Prayer on some graveyard skeletons but it takes forever to get them powered up.
Forget the one where you gotta get them AND Erik pepped in the sand area. Its difficult.
Heard its better to wait for Jade and the old man so you can switch out?

I really liked Dragon Quest Monsters actually. Such a shame they stopped porting them after the second joker game. The main series is nice too but I just wanna have my disgusting creature eugenic program again.

Also what's this!?!?!?

Playing through 11S (and finished DQB2 a few months ago) and I have to say.... I utterly despise parts of the translation. I pretty much can't be bothered to read what the civilians are saying in Hotto and Gondolia, its so obnoxious. On the other hand, I love the monster designs, they are so cute!

You can buy items that initiate pep powers at will.

if you absolutely need a pep power and can't buy the items you switch party members out and the reserve members if they're pepped up won't lose their pep.

Ye olde english can get pretty overwhelming, especially in the older ones with walls of text.

DQ8 is one of my absolute favorite games. I really enjoy exploring the oversized overworld with nothing in it.

What? I'm serious!

So I found out recently that DQ11's got a beefy demo on Switch. And when I say beefy, I mean first 5-7ish hours beefy. I've been playing around with it and honestly I really like it. It's nice to play a big-budget turn-based RPG on a console I can play on a TV. The game looks and sounds fantastic and I'm really tempted to just buy the whole thing after I finish the demo.

If you're enjoying the demo, let me just say that the first 6 hours are the worst part of the game and it only gets better from there.
