Dragon Ball Thread - RIP Akira Toriyama

Dragon Ball will be fine, stupid gaijin jews will make some dumb movie people will laugh at but there will still be good content being made in mighty Nippon. The last Broly movie was really good. Tbh I can't wait to torrent and watch the disney dragon ball, with Henry Cavill as Goku, that ugly stars war asian girl as Bulma (can't have pretty actresses in current year because being pretty is sexist), Idris Elba as Piccolo and to subvert expectations Krillin falls in love with Android 17 not 18. I can already confirm the villain in the movie will be Cell because in the current year you can't have Frieza (could be interpreted as making fun of gays) or Buu (fatphobic caricature) as villains.

But it's funny to think that a multi billion dollar company will never make something remotely as good as this:

Only as long as they ignore his 2nd form. Semi-Perfect Cell's lips are a little too... Wakandan.
 
Having watch some of the Dub for the Tournament of Power, I can say with some amount of snarkiness that they basically turned Android 17 into Hiei from Yuyu Hakusho which, if other people catch on to the way Chuck Huber played both characters, is just asking for a fan-animation or edit swapping the characters around.

Also, Jiren's english voice is the actual worst and I will pretend it doesn't exist.
 
If the rumors of another live action Dragon Ball movie turn out to be true, I honest to God don't know how Disney could buttfuck the franchise any more than Toriyama himself already has.

Dragon Ball is pretty much the Star Wars of anime. It's a massive, historical and genre defining franchise that is not only way past its prime, but way past its expiration date riding the coattails of its past glory. Just like Star Wars, Dragon Ball has become a failed Ellen Ripley clone begging for the sweet merciful release of death, but the unholy alliance of corporate greed and the nostalgia ridden autistic fandom just won't allow it to be put out of its misery after so many decades. And in both cases the creators turn out to be hacks blessed with way more luck than actual talent.

Personally I thought Dragon Ball started out as a dumb but fun series that had legitimately good seasons, a likable cast and two catchy as fuck opening songs. The peak of Dragon Ball was in my opinion the Saiyan saga. The Frieza saga was good, but the first cracks were already showing. The Android/Cell saga is when DBZ shit the bed while the Buu saga was just plain unholy.

Dragon Ball Super reads like a shitty fanfiction. The whole Super Saiyan God thing was pure trisomy 21 (as if we don't have enough Super Saiyan cancer), Frieza getting brought back, power levels of 100 quintillion, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan Rosé, rehashing the Future Trunks plot and so on. This is something I'd imagine Seltzer and Friedberg would do if they wanted to make a shitty Dragon Ball parody, only Toriyama did it unironically. The Broly movie was the only redeemable thing to come out of Super.

Xenoverse and FighterZ are still pretty fun though.

I thought Super was kinda redeeming. What little I got to see of GT was kinda cringe
