I think Frieza is stronger than Beerus by now. As for the heroes there's a chance Gohan is above them both, but who knows really.

It's just cool they're making these characters relevant again, I thought Piccolo was condemned to fodder battles forever. Now they just need to boost the humans somehow.
Gohan and Freeza's relation to Beerus is going to be something either the anime or manga needs to address asap so that the fans know where everyone stands. Its kind of funny seeing Broly getting bumped down to third place so quickly in hindsight.

I think the answer is going to be "Destruction power has no limits" or however Vegeta put it. Beerus' power level is infinity until and unless they do an "Overthrow The Gods" story, which doesn't seem likely. Till then, it's a sitcom and Beerus is the cranky boss.

That is more like how they seem to have positioned Angels rather than Gods of Destruction. Ever since Supreme Kai said Vegito was as strong as Beerus and Jiren surpassed Belmod it seems like the writing has been on the wall, they're just not that strong anymore. If they're not all surpassed by now then they will be very soon.

Of course, power scaling has been absolute dog shit since the anime returned, so who knows.

Soooo this fanfic, then, minus the serial killer vibe?

Isn't that just the light of the aura tainting the highlights of the hair?
I guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if the red head hair is supposed to signify being the next stage in the 4 line. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if bamco says that 4 correlates to the first god form and that they end up with blue fur and jet black head hair in the future.

Speaking of super saiyans, I had a bit of an epiphany with 2. It wasn't just Gohan's inner power manifesting, it was the doubling down on that "living peacefully makes a saiyan's power explode when exposed to trauma" idea. The mastered ss1 has no innate anxiety like a regular state and thus Goku got to wondering if going super saiyan while already a super saiyan would work, with Gohan being the best candidate due to his short fuse and history of blowing up when his friends are hurt. As dumb as S cells are, this does tie in with them well enough for things to make sense in hindsight and explains why Vegeta never got 2 on his own--he'd never be calm enough to master ss1 after Goku cucked him out of a duel and he got shown up by a nine year old.

I think Toriyama's biggest weakness is that he sucks at explaining stuff and needs his editors to cover for him, and the guy managing the whole Cell saga just plain dropped the ball on filling the audience in.

Except the S-cell bullshit also works without any emotional distress if you just concentrate hard enough in a specific spot and you get more S-cells by just getting stronger anyway. As long as you have the prerequisite amount, you can transform, which is already kinda how it worked to begin with when it was just Ki based. That's the reason that shitty retcon seems to superficially match the behaviour during Z. It's really pointless.

What is completely erroneous though is you fanfictioning this into Vegeta not being able to get SS2, even though 1; he did 2; being calm has no bearing whether or not you transform with S-cells. You either need to be angry/sad or concentrate in the right place. Mastered SS1 is just practicing SS1 until you get used to it so it uses less power to maintain the transformation, and the "calmness" comes from the transformation no longer making you emotional when you get used to it.

Even your explanation is contradictory, first you say it doubles down on the trauma angle, but then it randomly becomes about needing to be zen, before you get traumatised to be stronger. Like what? Shit, how did Vegetable get the first SS then? He was a ruthless asshole the entire time, not muh peaceful saiyajin. Maybe Beerus told him to scratch the back of his neck with ki.
