Some say you were great, but honestly, you were truly the best.

I get this guy's broken up over the death of Akira Toriyama but am I really supposed to believe that the dude will spend his time in the afterlife watching YouTube videos of people dubbing Dragon Ball Z or Geekdom going on treasure hunts to find parallels to Journey to the West?

Everyone loves Dragon Ball Z as a kid. And then you grow up and start noticing all the giant cracks in its actual writing. Good fucking lord is Namek and the Android saga filled with plot contrivances. So is Buu. It's enjoyable, but it's so full of holes.
Follows the motif of "Keep it simple stupid" I love this franchise, but never, even when I was kid in late 90s, did I ever think it was anything outside of a guilty pleasure. Trying to make sense of it was never an option even if your brain desires to do so. I pity those without long term memories and say "yeah Super makes no sense unlike Dragon Ball Z" because they utilize a mixture of headcanon, dubbing errors, internet hearsay, and anime filler to use as evidence on top of the already retcons plastered everywhere in the original manga. Toriyama was not a story planner, but he was excellent at weekly improvisation and a fantastic artist. Anytime he wanted to take a shortcut with his work, he'd merge it with the story (Getting rid of tails, slowly removing Vegeta's armor, Super Saiyan meant less inking) and everyone would be ok with it even if it was a flimsy and somewhat inconsistent reason.
Dragon Ball probably has the most deranged fan base of all time.
There's a good reason why a portion of the Dragon Ball fanbase is synonymous with the Sonic fanbase. Some real fucking weirdos on /v/ and /a/ who are crossover of Sonic fans and/or big time pedophiles (the notorious one is the Pan posters). The /v/an community on /v/ during weekends is also a home for many of them if you ever click on one of their threads. You even had a lot of faggots in the /a/ sticky and on /v/ cry that Toriyama's passing didn't get multiple board stickies.

Reekdom is upset that he along with every other other non-Japanese fan content creators were never acknowledged by Toriyama and this is way of coping about it. He always had this idea that eventually somebody else outside of Toyotarou would be seen for their fan work, without realizing why Toyotarou was chosen as his heir in the first place. Honestly what he's describing is what Hell would be like for Toriyama. Imagine if Yuji Naka died tomorrow and had to spend his time in the afterlife looking over all of the fan content created by the Sonic fanbase.

Dragonball and DBZ make perfect sense, it only stops making sense when you forget there's cartoon logic and a lot of shit done solely because "hey wouldn't it be funny/cool if this happened". When Goku first shows up in Dragonball and gets shot in the fucking head he doesn't die. Not due to some power scaling reason, no he does it because he's literally a thick headed kid. Lots of shit like that happens throughout both the original and Z, though a bit less so in Z.

Yes because at the start it was an adventure gag comic that still harbored many Dr. Slump aspects. That's why Goku sends a Rabbit man who can turn people into carrots to the moon with his staff.

Whom Jackie Chun promptly killed when he casually blew up the moon. 95% of Dragon Ball was Toriyama being a goofy fuck and having fun entertaining Japanese 8yos, its when he tried to get dead serious is when the series was normally at its weakest and yet these idiots savor those periods.

In a way, its almost cruel that power level autists are attracted to Dragon Ball like moths to a flame. Abstraction is 100% necessary to "get" Toriyama, and there's no way in hell big number obsessed weirdos will ever be able to understand a man who became a multi-millionaire by drawing a robot girl that pokes poop.

Part of the reason is how they were introduced to it. In this case through a very warped and altered dubbed version of the anime adaption almost halfway in (start of Z). Compare that to being an 8 year old Japanese kid picking up a copy of Shonen Jump at the local convenience store down the block before heading to school to read the latest chapter of Dragon Ball. Chances are said kid also has a copy of a Dragon Quest game at home on his Famicom and is/was a fan of Dr. Slump. With the former, they were given a lie of what the franchise was or its origins from a comicbook, and rather than accept that it was a lie, they double down on their desire to make Dragon Ball into something it never was.

When it gets serious is pretty well done usually in my opinion. The shit they were able to somehow get away with for a manga/anime marketed to children is nuts. Brought up an example from Dragon Ball specifically in another thread a while ago. Red's death fucking shows the bullet hole when he gets shot in the fucking head in all versions but the movie adaptation that changes a few character designs as well as how shit plays out. I guess the network censors somehow slept both in Japan and in the dubbed regions when those aired lmao.

Dragon Ball was relatively very tame in violence compared to its fellow mangas in Shonen Jump at the time, especially Silver Fang, Baoh and Fist of the North Star.
If it's your first anime outside of maybe Pokemon, then yes, it was a night and day difference with the cartoons shown in the States up to the 90s. But if you saw the anime in Japan at the time back when it was airing in the late 80s, it was mild as you can get for action anime designed for boys (see: anything that Yoshiyuki Tomino had a hand in during the 80s)

DbHype deactivated his account after being exposed as some kind of kingpin of dragon ball leaks.
Oh i saw it too, I genuinely thought DBShype was just another fraud leaker like dbschronicles but is looks he was something even worse, imagine committing crimes just for content and internet clout, the db community is just getting crazier
