Now Veilguard may be the wokest, but dam, Inquisition had a troon side character too and more gay romances than straight ones. Begs the question how some fans these days can't stomach Veilguard at all, but they could stomach all the bisexual bullshit in 2 and Inq with minimal complaints.
Because it didn't
matter in the previous games.
When DA2 came out and they revealed every single companion was bi, it never once seemed like some "forced diversity" shit; it seemed like a lazy way of giving the player more options without forcing them to play a specific gender. The only part about it that was remotely annoying was Anders, who in Awakening was a skirt-chasing horndog, suddenly lamenting the fate of his first love, who is revealed to be some bearded dude.
DAI ramped it up, but not
so up that it was an active blight (ha.) on the rest of the game. Of the game's gay characters, Dorian is very well-liked, even on this thread. Sera is... Not at all liked in this thread, but all the complaints about her are regarding her attempts at being 'funny', and for being selfish, immature, and never growing out of it. That she also eats pussy is pretty irrelevant. The pooner is certainly eye-rolling, but she's also an optional NPC who you can almost entirely ignore, or even miss outright if you don't recruit Iron Bull. Like with DA2's retcon about Anders taking it up the ass, the biggest problem with this in DAI is the retcon shit with the Qunari. So much for Sten's "Why are you pretending to be a man?"; now the Qunari accept and cherish trannies. But, again, this content revolves around a character with almost zero narrative relevance, and who can be missed entirely. DAI is massively bloated and padded to the point of being kind of a slog to finish. This stuff is a drop in the bucket.
Failguard, no. Now that shit is front and center. We're not even bothering with making up new fantasy terms for these mental illnesses, now we're just using modern, reddit-approved terms.
"Soooo, I'm non binary." Listen to Isabela as she explains the proper punishment for 'misgendering', support Traash's "personal journey of self-discovery" with zero options to be mean, look at the breast-mutilation scars in character creation, etc etc.
But it goes even further than that. Because Failguard also gives a big middle finger to anyone who liked the previous games. No more choices from past entries; they're gone. No more Fereldan or Kirkwall. No more in-universe slavery, blood magic is banned, desire demons are banned, the Antivan Crows are morally righteous, pirates only steal 'cultural artifacts' to give them back to whoever made them. And then, as the cherry on top, Failguard came out when people are fucking
sick of this shit now.
Of course I can stomach everyone in DA2 being bisexual. Compared to now, those were the good old days.
