When Dragon Age became incapable of posing those moral conundrums, it ceased to be a story worth taking seriously. Maybe decent gameplay could have saved it, but apparently they fucked the dog on that, too. A shame.
You mean that, but for me, Veilguard nailed the coffin with the worst appareances of Morrigan & Isabella.

I meam, what the fuck just happened. The taint are on them?
Not even talking the 6th blight using the same plot device as fucking Origins.
Grey Wardens are the most badass faction in the world and Inquisition makes them a bunch of schizo kiddos.

There are so many problems with Veilguard that it's really a multiple choice thing as to what put it in the ground. I just think the wokeness is a thread that runs through all of it -- maybe even more than the wokeness is the attendant softness, such as how every single origin story has you a brave rebel standing up to Wicked Authority, with even the pirates and assassins being good guys with merely aesthetic villainy.

Not to menmtion turning the artstyle from gritty (Origins) to whatever the hell Veilguard is. And of course the fucking dialogue with words that have no.fucking.right. to exist in a fantasy setting

This is a lot words to say that Veilguard's writing is dogshit. Wokeness might be the flavour of shit that tainted it, but at the end of the day, it was ruined because the writers were hacks and had to use wokeness as a crutch.

In other words, its gay as fuck. Not weird considering it was written by FAGGOTS!

I just hope BioWare will finally be put out of its misery now. They used to be one of my favorite devs, between KotOR, Dragon Age and Mass Effect etc I can't count the amount of times I've replayed their games. But the real BioWare died years ago, the shambling corpse just keeps dragging its name through the mud. The damage can never be undone but better late than never.
The people responsible need to be held accountable and tossed off Saudi rooftops, but I suppose I'll settle for them losing their jobs.

Back in February this year, a few places like GameSpot were saying that BioWare had fewer than 100 staff left.

It is basically a shell of its old self at the moment. The end may be near.

Sure, the writing is awful. But I think why the writing is so bad is a question worth exploring.

I think the art style has to be number 1 reason why it flopped. That first trailer was so off looking, like Dreamworks did a fantasy Fortnite movie, and it's using the in game models so what you see is what you get. Imagine if the next Mass Effect looked like that. I think that it could even be argued that DA (Origins at least) was a touch darker than ME. I guess they thought they could get away with it because Tumblr has been doing cutesy DA fan art for over a decade and they actually thought those couple of thousand weirdos were the fanbase. No one saw "So I'm Non Binary" and "pulling a Bharv!" until a couple of days before the game released and the damage was already done by then.

But then the art style is completely emblematic of the deeply sappy tone. The two grey warden characters you converse with are an elf and a dwarf called Antoine and Evka and their whole deal is that they love each other very much and are in love and isn't that cute! An elf and a dwarf romance! Aww! Also a few tidbits about the blight changing (as per plot revelations) possibly affecting the taint within them as Wardens - but it's all fine because they're in love and they've got each other and everything is breezy and fine. They're cute!!

Also there's How to Train Your Griffon. The Warden companion's whole arc is learning to be a good doggo daddy to the giggly baby griffon. If I were to put on my neurotic woke hat I might even say having the black dude's plot be based around learning to be a better father is a kind of patronising but whatever. Point is instead of this being a terrifying war griffon meant for battling darkspawn instead you take it for walks in the woods and on picnics. It likes to eat truffles. There was more screen time given to this fact than to the entire revelation from Solas' memories that elves are in fact spirits who severed the Titan's souls in order to bleed them of lyrium so they could make themselves bodies to inhabit. That foundational genesis gets about 2 minutes of discussion before you're back to the much more important content of another hour long cute picnic scene. This time the griffon discovers a wounded halla (the elven deer things) in the woods. Instead of devouring it for dinner the griffon nudges, snuggles and nurses it back to health. Awww! Vegetarian griffon!! Cute!

Honestly this shit beggars belief. Inquisition may have watered things down a bit from Origins, but it looks like fucking Berserk in comparison to just how diabetes inducingly vapid and sweet Failguard is.

the art style change and them changing the name is what made me not realize this was the next big dragon age game. i was sitting around waiting for dreadwolf to come out so when veilguard was announced and it had that ugly artstyle i just though "ok it's a shitty little side game, no need to play it, i'll just wait for the real game to drop". they really just fucked the game in every way possible from the start.

So, basically a female Warden and Alistair from Origins.
Wtf.

This.

Everyone who wasn't coping knew it was over the nanosecond this trailer released. A pozzed, corporate, Fortnite/Suicide Squad dumpster fire disaster.

I still remember when this first image of Veilguard-style darkspawn dropped. I tried to maintain optimism but it was pretty clear a disaster was in the offing.

Tranny Bush approved all of this. Weekes led a team that wrote all of this nonsense.

I won't be surprised if they all have inner Kathleen Kennedies that resented the IPs that they were handed, because if you really liked it, you won't deliberately set up to do a Saints Row reboot equivalent of a game.

The only thing I'm fairly satisfied with is the ending-Solas the Trickster/Prometheus figure being bound forever to hold up the world as penance-for his crimes, willingly or not.

Whether you convince him he was wrong via the power of love, or everyone dies(my favorite ending)-I do think its...a decent conclusion to Solas' story? Solas is fundamentally a mythological character-and as the last of the elven gods-his penance to hold up the Veil(he made) from collapsing-is pretty appropriate.

Solas the spirit of wisdom, demon of pride-the rebel and the traitor-the one who freed his people and took away their eternal life-because of his pride-choosing or being forced to give his essence in penance forever-he can't undo the damage he did, but he can prevent it from becoming catastrophically worse.

It fits what I liked about the Evanuris-as mythic archetypes in an otherwise relatively low-ish fantasy setting.
