I had the misfortune of listening to it, here's the video:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=-dq3KkpOk9wExtremely boring and bad. The main topic is "The Futurists", some niche offshoot of the Fascists pre WW2 that made some weird ass cookbook (unfortunately it's literally that and not like the Anarchists Cookbook). Of course, being related to the Fascists (and thus NAZEES) they are doubleplus ungood so the podcast is them speaking on the cookbook 2 mintes followed by 15 minutes WOW FASCISTS ARE BAD AND STUPID which make it absolutely crawl in a snail's pace.

It's also extremely uninformed and amateurish, there is no attempt to contextualise the ideas and culture and time period behind it (because Fascists=Nazis=bad) and no attempt to recreate the food to see if it's really unsalvageable. Like I'm pretty sure that every time Rice is referred it means Risotto, and they just use a shitty translation that probably makes the weird recipes come off as unintelligible.

So basically it's 2 hours listening to degenerates who probably masturbate to eating literal shit talk about how food made by Fascists must taste bad.
so it's the cum cookbook/mixology episode but fascists. But with less cum jokes and more "nazis bad"?

Is Dwarf Fortress even interesting to anyone except for Dwarf Fortress people? I can get into the wacky hijinx of a random "That Happened" Space Station 13 story but Dwarf Fortress seems so dry and heavy to get into unless that's your specific brand of autism, and that's just to PLAY it. I know that the devs released a version on steam with actual graphics that looks really fun but really complex to get into.

Just go back to making videos on unexplored topics like Temple OS again. Or bizarre internet drama like the Purr Cat Cafe video. That was at least interesting or funny.

The problem is the ship has sailed on all these things, for their own reasons. Dwarf Fortress had the same gutting of its mystique Space Station 13 did, which only got worse when the Steam version released, and obscure internet topics are largely verboten unless you toe the line regarding what, how, and whom you portray in a negative light. And the resources for any such topics become more and more obscured by forums moving to Reddit moving to discord.

Or see if there’s any untold offline stories like Deep Blue. Or Austria’s wine industry.

TBH, I think that anything online has been talked about by the likes of Turkey Tom, Joon The King, and Cecil McFly.

And if those guys haven’t done a doc, chances are you’ll find something just searching on YouTube. Or you could check the Lolcows of History section to see if anything was written or rewritten in light of receiving the inactive tag.

Its like people who build Linux kernels from scratch or purposely seek the most user unfriendly distros and I wouldn't be surprised if there was significant overlap. Being hardcore is the appeal even if the game is overhyped and user unfriendly distros are pointless for the vast majority of people.

His latest video didn't do it for me, and he lost me early. All I got was that some people shared a save file of a niche game that is mega-successful by indie standards.

To be fair, he gave some context at the start, but this isn't a universally understood topic, i.e., the 'Final Fantasy house.' If you aren’t into Dwarf Fortress or curious about it, you'd be lost. But I'm just not shocked that a game programmed to go wild with variety of results goes wild with variety of outcomes.

Oh shit. Fredrik has posted a new video and its not 8 hours long!

It's meh. The usual case where the content is twice as long as reading the thing yourself. Really weird why he didn't recreate the scenes with the modern graphical engine and instead used the originals. Either you played old DF and heard of the story, or not and the graphics means jackshit.

You don't really need context, it's funny enough to read yourself only knowing the basic gist of the game. The narration removes the flow and the comedy to the point I feel this video only exists so Zoomers pretend they have oldfag credentials for not reading a forum post.

Literally zoomers:

He will eventually cover reddit and 4chan posts too. He's one of THOSE channels now.
Nah, he will NEVER cover 4chan. He's too safe for that. He has expressed trolls remorse over topics like Chris Chan, imagine how much backlash he'd get from his NEW fanbase. If he had covered 4chan way back when he started, MAYBE but not NOW.

Probably. Still I think he failed to make me care about some “wacky“ event in a game I’ve never played nor I plan to. I could’ve read it somewhere else ( which just highlight how much he failed to make non Dwarf fortress players care), do homework just to understand an event at a game not aimed at me and maybe get a chuckle or two, or I could just watch something else, which I did.

I'm happy I checked this thread before I bothered with his new video. I did watch the intro and then read the primary source intro from the archive posted here and have concluded that he some how says less interesting and funny things in more robotic words. His talking speed feels like it's been halved as well.

Fredrick’s video topics were split up between lolcow/internet history and videos about obscure events and people. I’ve heard a lot of people say that he should go back to making lolcow video but I think the problem with that is that the youtube and lolcow ecosystem has moved passed his old style of videos. DTRH was unique because the only other person really making lolcow videos at the time was Metokur and there wasn’t really anyone making more objective documentary style lolcow videos. Nowadays, there’s dozens of channels like Turkeytom making videos in that style (albeit much lower quality) with more frequent and longer uploads. I remember when I first got into Chris Chan I loved his video on him. However now that video has been completely outclassed by the Geno documentary and is wildly out of date.

I really think he should focus more on videos like the rat utopia experiment or Henry Darger. I’ve always thought that the mouse utopia video was his best video and it also happens to deservedly be his most viewed video. Atrocity Guide is the closest channel that fills the niche of his old videos but she also has the problem of barely uploading. I think a lot of YouTubers get into the trap of starting off making 20-30 minute long videos and then trying make their videos better and better to the point were they barely upload anymore. I also just didn’t really like his last videos because it felt like it could have just been a Whang video.

was rewatching the eve online video, anyone know what operating system he's using? (timestamp 17:24)

Fredrik Knudsen the Owlfag, "Boatmurdered | Down the Rabbit Hole", an Electronic video.
This is an Electronic video. All craftsowlship is of dubious quality.
It is decorated with pixels of Electronic and is encircled by elements of Adobe. On the item is the owlfag artist and a group of people. The owlfag is reading and presenting screenshots. The group of people is disinterested.
It menaces with spikes of Fagate.
