Well, I stand corrected. No idea how long it'll take me to get through this, I couldn't even do the Wings video in one sitting.
The Wings video was the beginning of Fred spending autistic amounts of time dwelling on very unimportant things. I remember in that video he spent almost 30 minutes on a COD match.

You can make dwarf fortress interesting but you have to be entertaining about it. Getting lost in jargon isn't nearly as engaging as describing some of the stupid shit that can happen. That's how SsethTzeentach made it interesting at least.
Oh yeah, totally agree. I love Sseth's older videos on weird shit where he actively tells ridiculous stories to keep the viewer engaged, and his videos aren't even 30 minutes long (the vast majority of them anyway).
DTRH's style of presentation is more akin to creepypasta reading or uraban legends, and that doesn't work when the subject matter is just a game that's already hard to engage with.
Exactly. And I loved DTRH for what it was - a kind of peoplewatching documentary that humanised bizarre stories, like the Collier brothers, the time cube guy or our beloved Terry, or it looked at internet subcultures/retardation with a well-researched, neutral point of view and a no-nonsense delivery and a dash of subtle comedy due to Fred's dry tone mixed with the absurdity of the story being covered.

EVE just doesn't have that power as a subject for the majority of his viewerbase, I'm genuinely surprised it's already above 100k views. Maybe I'm too autistic but I figured people would've been worn out with his change in subject matter after Deep Blue. May Island was niche even compared to his other stuff.

The COD match didn't even fucking matter, he could have sliced it down to the bare minimum to paint Jordie's reactions in the same light with which he waffled for 30 minutes. JFC.

watched around two hours. the first hour was interesting. watching the EVE community grow, the chaos the games freedom gave its players and the devs starting to crank the admin whip. started to zone out during the 2 hour mark.

will try and finish it tomorrow.

Did he always have this faggy tone of voice? It’s like he got injected with a microdose of Chills. I swear he used to talk like a normal human being but 15 seconds into the eve video (not counting his new so cool animated intro) it sounds like the audio version of capitalizing random words.

More or less just been listening. I've stared at the eve client long enough that it's permanently been burnt into my brain. Right about 2h45m Goons trapped BoB and DD changes, about 2009-2010

Yeah, two hours is about where I had to take a break too. It's just so much excess shit. I wish he'd done this as a series.

Also, did he skip over the guy who stole everyone's money by pretending to be a bank? Because I thought that happened in 2006 but Fred seems to be up to 2007 now.

There's definitely something weird with his voice. Jumping around the video it started changing drastically and by the end he. started. putting. emphasis. on. every. word.

I didn't hate the video. Do I think it was worth the wait? Not really considering he spent most of the time making this dicking around with furries and being a sensitive little faggot.

I watched it in chunks over the course of the past day. It was fine. Definitely parts that could've been trimmed (a lot of the EVE side projects end up being unimportant and uninteresting) and it's also definitely not worth the wait. I have no idea how the fuck the animation took so long to do given how simple it is (basically just a few ships copied & pasted, not even drawn with detail, just simple shapes) and there's only like 15 minutes of it spread throughout the 6 hours.

Ultimately I think the biggest problem is that EVE just isn't that interesting. If this were broken up into six smaller parts I guarantee the views would tank after the second episode.

600k in less than a day, jesus christ...

View count is just initial clicks so it's an interesting question if people survive far into the video. Plus the view count can plateau after the initial hype. So far from the first 45 minutes the eco systems of the game is interesting (from a game design perspective), but I have a feeling once we get into corporate warfare it will become repetitive.

Also that interview with the guy running away from a pirate sounds 100% fake and chances are he just copes with losing weeks of work.

I can assure you the combat shakes and intensity of just how scary nullsec is when you are a noobie is very real. Played about 13-14 years myself and while I don't get them that often anymore, it depends on the value of the ship. Losing a cheap one (if you aren't space poor) isn't the end of the world, you tend to lose 10+ of those trying to learn the fit. However fielding a ship worth $1k USD+ you tend to have your nerves a bit on edge, add in the spying shit and such pending the corp/alliance you are with - or if you are doing solo stuff with no support. It's really fun and has to appeal to that type of person otherwise you are bored shitless of a really bad game.

I'm about the same. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough to make up for two years of waiting. He really should have made this a three parter and divvied it over the years. But, longer content makes more money and he thought it was better to put all his eggs in one basket.

Apparently his next project is going to be shorter, but considering Internet Historian also said he'd do shorter and more frequent videos on his main channel and that didn't happen, I doubt it here as well.

Finished it. First 45 min or so were good. I especially liked the account of the guy managing to escape death by getting to a stargate despite narrow odds. I'm also a sucker for historical corporate drama. After that it was pretty uninteresting to me, and I love video games and autistic details. I think just hearing about the same factions doing the same battles but with a patch update twist gets very tiresome. He also doesn't convey scale well. The animations were basic to put it generously. It makes me think I could Photoshop an outline of a ship and move them around a black background, which is bad, because I have no creative skills.

Scrolling through the dick-sucking comments, I'm obviously missing something. Maybe my autism isn't strong enough to interpret the events he's talking about.
THE MOMENT WE NEEDED HIM THE MOST HE RETURNED!!!!!1!
Shut the fuck up anyone who likes your comment is at least as braindead as you.
