You know what's also annoying? When the mapset is usually tame and easygoing but then you get to MAP31 and MAP32, and suddenly it's a slaughtermap.

You know what's even more annoying? What you described but the slaughtermaps aren't secret levels. Just randomly shoe-horned into a wad made with traditional gameplay in mind.

That's basically 90% of every megawad in the last 10-15 years. You play Map08 and up to this point the maps are somewhat traditional, with no more than 250-300 monsters and then the next map jumps to 1-2k+ bastards, and they switch from cool layouts and exploration, to closed arenas and ugly visuals. And then, some people still wonder why there are complaints of the slaughtershit. If these maps stayed in their own separate bubble and didn't invade every project under the sun, i don't think they would have that many critics.

As a classic KKKlub trope, starts off decently but drops in quality really fast due to gimmicks not fitting for Doom. (slaughter, map being too vertical etc...)

BTSX could've been great if they had some restraint. It's a vanilla map pack after all.

Ep 1 and 2 released in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Strange that one of the most well-known wads hasn't gotten another sequel finished in 12 years.

I was asked in private to explain why i nuked my TimeOfDoom account. I was going to explain it anyway, but it took me some time to write the thing down. Even now i'm not sure if i've covered all my gripes, but here we go:

Why i did it? I simply gave Stodgy Ayatollah what he wanted, which is me gone from his precious forum. And i'm not the only one he wants gone, believe me. He's talking behind my (and other's) back, framing me as "harmful" all while acting friendly in my face, and expecting me to work on his new project. He messaged someone saying, "ToD was not created for the likes of me, it is only for the hardworking honest people". Apparently that's a description i don't fall under, even though i've put more into that forum, than his favorite "honest contributors", most of which post once a month, and some haven't even uploaded a single map there yet.
The guy spent a year, without showing any concerns with the stuff that's being posted. Basically, he let things go with the flow up to this point, but now, apparently, it turns out he was seething the whole time and was not okay with it. Either that, or he finally woke up from his slumber and realized that he's the admin, and he should've had a clear direction for the site from day one, not a year later. ToD turned out the way it did, because of Stodgy Ayatollah, no one else. Because he has the power, he could've made the rules, but he didn't have the balls to do it from the start. So now, instead of blaming himself for having no idea or direction for the site, he's going to blame the people without whom the forum would still sit with 30 users, of which 20 inactive, and Xeep Eep spamming threads about his asshole.

So there you go... If you don't see your name in the exclusive list of "honest productive refugees" ToD is not made for you, period! He made it clear. Even Bob Page, who gets the "respect" of being part of this special club, is framed as a guy who is stuck 10 years in the past. And that's just from one leak... i can imagine how much more shit about me and the other "harmful KF retards" has been said... stuff that we'll never going to see.

Also, how great to throw shade on CCP, of which he was very happy and proud of when it was released. Of what drama and immaturity is he talking about there, i have no idea. He knew exactly what he was doing with this project, and the end result turned out exactly like everyone expected it to be, including him. There was no drama, or anything like that. CCP will always stand as a proof that he still lacked any serious intentions for the forum around April of this year. Otherwise, why would he come up with a troll idea for ToD's first official community project? Wouldn't you want something serious for your first release? Something to make some noise, and have people associate your site with, instead of a joke project? So yeah, that sharp 180 turn that he's trying to pull now is not going to work out very well for him.

The funny thing is, when it comes to the goals of the forum, i agree with most of what Stodgy wants. I never wanted ToD to be just like KF. We have this thread here for that. ToD could have and should have been different, but only if he tried when he should have. So even if we are in agreement there, i don't appreciate being blindsighted and thrown under the bus like that. If it wasn't for me and killerratte (who is also not mentioned as part of the "productive and honest folk"), to keep the activity going until more users showed up, where would things be now? Around the time Time of Death gave away the admin rights to Stodgy, it was just the three of us posting there regularly. That would have been the perfect time to come up with guidelines and direction, but he wasn't interested in that at the time, was he?

This was, of course, Doomkid responding to ArchCynic on his comments under Dean of Doom Sunlust review. Why would you go on youtube to publicly side with a Doomworld moderator in response to a user from your own forum, who's recently been wrongfully banned from Doomworld? He doesn't even add anything, he just went there to say "I agree with you Doomkid". What's the point, other than to shit on your own forum's member? It's one thing if you disagree with what ArchCynic said. You could've addressed that in the DoD thread on ToD, where ArchCynic was also posting. It's an entirely different thing to completely ignore the guy, and go suck Doomkid's cock. That's nothing short of a backstab. But of course, ToD is not made for ArchCynic as well, i guess...

Even after all of this, i was willing to ignore the whole drama and let it go (at first), and i even replied to the leaked message above, saying i'm going to support and defend Stodgy Ayatollah if he faces backlash for the "forum values page". Well... that lasted for two days alright. I woke up yesterday, smelled the coffee and i started making my map for his project, but the desire to work for him was no longer there. One question kept haunting me - Why the fuck would i waste my time working for someone who disrespects me behind my back and says his site is not for the likes of me? Why would i abandon my own solo project that's been dragging for 2 years, to make maps for that guy? Or to post on his forum? Nope, that's not me. It was an easy decision to nuke my account after that.

Hahaha, oh boi. Yeah, there was no drama around the CCP. One guy got cold feet and left afterwards, but that's about it. The only one creating drama is Stodgy himself. How is this even real?

Not entirely. There is a nifty Doom group on Facebook of all places that has been consistently wholesome: Doom Repository. It also has a less serious sister group called Doom Suppository.

This was the first forum I ever tried to join at like age 14 or so, and they banned me because my name was slightly edgy and I kept asking for funny joke wads to show my friends. What a bunch of dildoes.

For now, yes. I might return on Discord, on smaller channels if there are any worth following. I'll be working on my maps. I only have 3 more to complete to pack my episode... if i didn't dedicate so much time to ToD in the last year, the damn thing probably would have been done by now. I could post CPH here as well, at least temporarily.

Fourth. I must be going for a record or something. My first Doom forum was ZGroom, though i have a total of 5-6 posts there, asking mapping questions, when i just picked up the editor. Yeah, it sucks, but what can you do? It's not like i didn't try to make it work. I made a lot of compromises, changed my way of posting, stayed silent on topics i had a lot to say about, just so i don't get framed as "someone who's just looking to infight people". I even offered Stodgy to discontinue CPH (i would've moved it here in that case), and yet still, i'm the guy who doesn't belong there and is of no benefit to the forum, according to him.

Interesting, i don't think i left back in April, if i did, the account deletion would have happened then. I was just disappointed and had a moment of doubt, which now, is finally justified. Me complaining about the state of the forum, "without talking to him first" is more of a "depends on how you look at it" situation. What was there to talk about? He let DoomGuy999 in during his worst spamming spree and was about to give him a chance. I didn't have to say anything, he knew that all of us, not just me, are against this. My stand on wastes of space like Gehenna and his alts, Noisy Velvet and Xeep Eep was more than clear, going back to my Doomer Boards days. What am i supposed to do? Drop on my knees and beg him to put them in line? Especially during a time when he showed no interest in having a serious forum, without such lunatic spergs. Doesn't matter though, we'll see if he'll deal with their schizo posting now, in his new reformed forum.

Yup, i agreed with it, but somewhere along the line our ideas of what a productive forum is, seem to diverge. All i care about is having a Doom forum free of spam and politics, not free of fun, where if you talk a little bit more about DW's latest fuck up and bad trends, it is seen as "obsession" or "wanting to transform the place into a KF satellite". He's not 40oz 2.0, but his idea model will turn ToD into Doomer Boards 2.0, where the only activity happens when there's a project in development, while the rest of the forum is dead. Doomworld is the biggest, most active side in the community and therefore, it provides the most topics of discussion... and the most interesting ones as well. What else is there to talk about when we have nothing going on? The mechanics of a 33-year-old game? While we're at it, why don't we make a "Things about Doom you just found out about" thread... boy, that sure will get the masses to register...
Just let the people have their fun, and quit nagging them for bashing DW. Fun is what they come to your platform for. We can ban the slur usage, and that's perfectly fine, but don't ask people to stop talking about the stuff they're interested and entertained by. If your idea of a "serious forum" is for everyone to act like 80-year-old people in a retirement home, yeah, we are in a disagreement there, buddy.
