I'm gonna create a bootable floppy with a modified CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to free up the conventional 640k.

Edit: I forgot SBCONFIG.EXE IRQ=7 DMA=3

Brutal Doom's just kinda meh and the guy that made it is a horrible human being.
Judging from PvtRichardCranium's deviantart journal, the guy behind is Brutal Doom nazi sympathizer apparently. For those who didn't know , make of that what you will.
Aside from Brutal Doom, I remember first playing Doom... on the GBA....

He's not a Nazi Sympathizer. He's a black Brazilian. He just made some joke about nazis or some shit, and because everybody was already jealous of him (I used to be part of the Doom modding community, which is full of mostly furries, bronies and drama queens, with maybe 3 or 4 genuine modders, SgtMKIV included) he was banned when he defended himself. They never would have found out about the joke if nobody had tried to steal his code. I actually talk to SgtMKIV occasionally and he's glad he got banned because it was mostly people pissed off at him for making the only mod people know about. Half of the doom community praises his work for bringing Doom modding to mainstream attention, the other half are jealous because he made Brutal Doom and not them.

I was almost banned for criticizing a mod that pandered to bronies simply because it pandered to bronies. I'm not even shitting.

Ah okay I thought he was but I did stumble across a post that mentioned it as a joke. As for the modding community, would furries and bronies downvote any mlp/furry WAD where you are the Doom Marine who shoots ponies and furries? I'm sure they would rage and try to get that mod and its creator banned. Truly the Doom modding community must be full of spergs when you have half of it being jealous over a modder that brought Doom modding to mainstream attention.

Oh God, I remember my older cousin giving it to me, and saying "DUDE, THIS IS THE SCARIEST GAME YOU'LL EVER PLAY." I was five at the time, and had only ever played Super Mario Brothers and Commander Keen. It was a wake-up call.

Then I found Commander Keen hanging by a noose in Doom 2, and my childhood died a little.

I don't think it's that bad. But a while ago a guy was making a borderline pedophile furry dating simulation using ZDoom and it took the mods like three months to ban him because they didn't want a furry uprising. The same thing happens with bronies. I remember a brony calling one of the site owners a faggot without any provocation and he still isn't banned, simply because he's a brony and the mods and admins don't want to look like bigots.

Basically, if you're a furry or a brony you get away with anything, if you call out a furry or brony you get banned almost instantaneously.

Wat???? Some guy was literally doing that? I find that hard to believe. If such a thing was given attention, I'm sure a website like ED would give it the appropriate article. As for uprisings, I feel the mods should just say "Come at me bro." to these bronies and furries. The mods aren't bigots for banning bronies and furries when the two groups get out of the line and start breaking the rules. Then again maybe there is a problem with the mods if they don't stop this sort of behavior.

Maybe I wanted to play DOOM authentically.
At least semi-authentically. Windows 8 doesn't have DOS.
Dosbox isn't an actual port. It's an emulator.

If you wanna play Doom as legit as possible there's a sourceport called "Chocolate Doom" which tries to emulate it's original dos counterpart.

http://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/inde ... olate_Doom

It's mostly used to play ancient modifications that are incompatible with modern sourceports. It also remakes a lot of bugs that only existed in the Dos version that were even removed in later ports Id made of Doom. (Like if your mouse sensitivity is too high the options screen crashes).

Why would you want to play a version with the bugs like that in it?

Some people want to be authentic for some reason

Even with a bug that "if your mouse sensitivity is too high the options screen crashes?" How does that add to the enjoyment of the game?

That's just the most noticeable bug in the game. There's a few others that sourceports solve on principle. Like texture stretching glitches and ones where if the map is too big the game crashes

Some really, really old Doom mods rely on having a source port as true to the original Dos version as possible. It also lets you run multiple executables at the same time since it also doesn't require that much to run it.

One interesting question I forgot to bring up. What does everyone think of console ports of Doom?

I've tried a few. The 360 port of Doom is pretty good, it allows for split screen and online play(if I remember correctly anyway). It also includes all of the Ultimate Doom. There's also another port of Doom 2 on there with the same features. I've also tried the Original Xbox port of Doom on Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil's disk. It includes Doom, Doom 2, and Master Levels of Doom and split screen multiplayer for each. Those are the console ports I have played, but Doom was ported to like a bajillion consoles so I'm curious about all of your opinions toward the ports of the game.

Sorry for the bump, but I just now noticed this, and there's too much wrong with it for me to not respond. Mark didn't make a joke about Nazis, really not sure where that one came from. In his code, he made some sidebar joke about the plasma gun turning "white guys into niggers", someone that contributed to Brutal Doom found it and made a thread demanding that he either take the joke out or remove what the guy had contributed because he didn't want his name associated with it. "Stealing" had fuck-all to do with it, and is actually a pretty ironic argument to make given the immense amounts of shit Mark's ripped (in terms of both code and artwork) that he either hasn't, or has just barely, credited people for.

Pretty much every bit of criticism Mark gets, regardless of how well thought out or decently articulated it is, he responds to with the exact same logic you did; everybody's "jealous" of him. Some of the people that heap the hate on Brutal Doom take it way too far (mods for a 20 year old game really shouldn't be taken as seriously as some of Mark's critics do), but there's no point in denying that the way he reacts to criticism, his sketchy methods of crediting people, and his lame-ass try-hard attempts at being edgy and cool have invited most of the resentment he's gotten.
