That'd be kinda funny. Even within the series own continuity Doom 3 is rejected.
To be very fair, Doom 3 started off as an reimagining of the original games so it's really not a big surprise either. (Started on Mars, no acknowledgement of Phobos, Deimos. No reference to the prior games. Has its own named cast of character.) It stands perfectly fine on its own as it is.
 
If that's the case then I really hope they find some way to tie Doom 3 into all this outside the presence of the Soul Cube.

I joke about Doom 3, but I find it underrated in a lot of respects. It's an ambitious direction for the series, and probably one we're never gonna see again.

Doom 3 would have made for a pretty good spinoff. It didn’t work so well primarily because it billed itself as part of the main franchise, which is supposed to imply much faster paced gameplay than it had.
 
I finished the game. Tl;dr: It's good and a lot of fun.
Gameplay: It's pretty much the same as Doom 2016. My biggest gripes are that it feels kinda samey. The developers added enemies but they are nearly all mini boss types so the gameplay doesn't really change until they show up. The arenas also feel repetitive, I wish more of the arenas had unique design or gameplay options like traps. Some of the enemies have destructible parts and I wish it was expanded to more areas and morr enemies a la' Dead Space. Also relics are massively nerfed and they nearly all suck besides one that is near necessary for hard mode.
The levels themselves are massive and it's a huge pain to replay the mission if you want to item hunt.
The game is harder than Doom 2016. The new mini boss enemies are brutal and they take a shitload of ammo to kill.
A change that I think hurt the game was making the chainsaw recharge over time. In practice this makes ammo in the arenas pointless (which is almost always scarce in the later game) and makes it so you'll just grow to rely on the same weapons since they virtually have infinite ammo now rather than experiment with weapons and conserve ammo.

Performance: The game ran alright and the loading was pretty fast. I had some visual glitches including one cutscene that glitched completely but didn't force me to reload. There is one gameplay glitch (at least I think it's a glitch) where I finished a battle but one of the enemies disappeared during it and made it so I wouldn't get a post level reward for the battle. So I need to replay the entire level to get another chance at the reward...
Also on one of the levels I finished a challenge level only for the reward not to spawn (though there is a slight possibility I have been retarded and didn't collect the prize). The physics in the game can be pretty wonky, especially a particular boss fight.

Graphics wise it looks good and the music is okay (not much of a sound guy).

Overall I liked it, but I think it isn't as good as Ion Fury that fely far more tight gameplay-wise. It took me around 22 hours to finish it, but that's because I got nearly all items and all unlockables before finishing the game.

See, I respect your opinion but I thought Ion Fury was just okay. That game IMHO lacked enemy variety and the levels were just a little too big and/or had too many secrets. Now Dusk on the other hand was GDLK.
 
My beef with Ion Fury is similar to other throwback shooters of its ilk: way too much hitscan enemies, which when coupled with wide open maps is just frustrating as all hell and one of the aspects of old fashioned shooters that I do not miss one bit. Maybe it's part of the appeal of the game, but I prefer the kind of shooter that utilizes dodgeable projectiles. Makes you appreciate mobility a lot more.
 
GameStop has elected to sell Doom Eternal a day early so as to comply with CDC guidelines of social distancing because Animal Crossing is releasing the same day.


No word on how this affects the PC version if you bought it on Steam.

I doubt it. That reminds me that I still need to pay off my Animal Crossing preorder. Hopefully those 2 keep me occupied if shit really hits the fan.

In the end my biggest problem with Eternal is that it's pretty safe, to the point it might as well been an expansion pack to DOOM. Ion Fury felt more unique and its faults are mainly apperant near the end.
