The Witcher 3 is the current rite of passage of new rigs. Irregardless to that, Doom Eternal is looking real spicy.
Oh good, good. My current rig can actually run it at 60 fps on Ultra (at least it did in the intro, didn't play past that because I just wanted to see if it could run). If it can run that then Eternal should run just fine on high.

I've been hearing reports that Doom Eternal's gonna run 20 hours according to the director. Frankly I'm having a hard time trusting that because they also said Doom 2016 would run 13-16 hours but it's probably closer to 8-10 (maybe even 6-7 if you're fast).

I don't doubt it will be longer, but 20 hours feels like a very generous estimate.

I was going to pirate it but I like the idea of someone invading your game. I love that idea in Souls. The problem in Souls is that the netcode is ass so a guy can swing his weapon and a second later you get hit.

I would kill for a multiplayer mode that harkens back to ‘99 in Eternal. No loot crates. No dumb ranking system. Just fluid controls and fun maps (and game modes) to frag it out. I know DUSK fits that niche, but no one plays it.

I would kill for Doom Eternal being open source like all previous ID Tech engines. Never going to happen under Bethesda, sadly.

I think people are seriously overestimating Eternal's system requirements. It's coming out on XBone/PS4 just like Doom 2016 did, so any computer that can run Doom 4 should run Eternal just fine. Id Software is not Ubisoft, they actually try to make sure their shit runs at a great framerate without hiccups, and supposedly the new version of idTech is putting a huge focus on optimization and other things of that nature.

Personally, I think 20 hours is too long for a twitch based FPS...

You can over stay your welcome real quick...

Hearing that the story isn't too in the way is a big relief, I was definitely worried that it was going to try and get too "epic".

Hey look another confused child.

Yeah, I know I'm fretting over nothing. It's just that I'm not used to my new rig's capabilities you know? As I said I've never owned a gaming PC, let alone one that can run current-gen games so I'm still in that awkward mindset I had with my shitty laptop where I had to pray the game can run just fine, which is ridiculous since this machine can run things like Doom 2016 and Witcher 3 just fine.

I actually liked the Plot in Doom 2016, it was this thing that was vaguely interesting. That the Main Character completely ignored because he didn't give a shit unless Sam actively got in his way, if they do the same thing in Eternal, even if it is more "epic" I will be fine with it so long as Doomguy doesn't react and is just there go murder demons.

I am weirdly excited about the story and how it'll expand the DOOM universe. I'm trying to stop looking at gameplay footage because I'm too fucking excited about it.

If I told my younger self I'd be looking forward to more DOOM story, he'd call me a faggot and load up Dead Simple.

I guess I meant that I don't want a hundred "Sam Hayden office scenes". I enjoyed the office scene because it was a moment of serious tension without diminishing either character involved. I don't want every single level in Eternal to have a part where a villain/potentially hostile character talks to you while you stand behind glass or something.

I don't want that either, I just want the chatter to happen while I am killing a horde of demons, and details to be filled in by the collectible stuffs, I like that..it works for Doom. "Doomguy don't care enough to really read this shit..but his armor downloads it all just in case it might help him kill demons in the future."

That was one of my absolute favorite touches on Doomguy in the 16 game. He doesn't give a fuck what Robot guy or Hillary Clinton Spider had to say..but he saved Vega because Vega helped him kill lots of demons..and it wasn't that far out of the way to do so.

I like that part where you are breaking the argent generators and Hayden tells Doomguy to wait and Doomguy pauses and allows Hayden a chance to talk before deciding Hayden is a asshole and goes back to smashing.

Its a little touch that Doomguy is trying to spite Hayden for allowing this to happen and his callous disregard for the lives lost and greater threat this outbreak could mean.

You know what I love most about that part? When you first play through it and the Doom Slayer just smashes the first one it almost seems like he's doing it out of impatience or an unwillingness to listen to Hayden's technical jargon. It comes off as comedic.

That is until he smashes the other ones while Hayden gets increasingly pissed off (this is also the only moment in the game where Hayden displays any emotion besides smug detachment). That's when I realized it wasn't impatience, it was the Slayer's intention to fuck up the UAC's operation.

It got even better when I replayed the game knowing the Doom Slayer's backstory and knew that his hatred of demons was the only thing driving him, so of course he'd sabotage the UAC's attempts to control Hell's resources (that and his contempt for Hayden's disregard for the massive loss of life like you said). Doom 2016's story and characters are actually smartly written if you care enough to peel back the layers, but it's never in your face, and that's why I think its story is basically perfect for an action game. By all accounts, Eternal might be continuing this style of storytelling and I hope it does without having the newfangled cutscenes bog everything down.
