Fucked up that doom eternal isn't getting deathmatch because the players are babies. Oh well, it would probably have sucked anyway knowing zenimax.

I do kinda like the idea for the multiplayer they're developing right now, where one player is the Doom Slayer and other players are demons. It's like a revamped version of the single-player and it's a cool idea to boot.

I don't know if I'd ever play it because I typically don't like online multiplayer, but I do like the concepts at least.

I know about the Vietnam War-themed one that was posted earlier in the thread, but I'm wondering if there's a WWII Doom WAD (especially given Doom's connection to Wolfenstein 3D) or a "Modern Warfare" Doom or something?

Hell, I'd be interested in a Civil War Doom or even a Doom WAD based on ancient or medieval warfare with a melee focus like Splatterhouse 3D.

Closest thing I can think of for WWII is Brutal Wolfenstein, which, despite the name, is a mod for Doom II.

As for Modern Warfare, I can't think of anything but you did just remind me of this video.
 
Why is it so hard to make a DooM movie?

Just take Hardcore Henry, and add demons. It's seriously that easy.

Ripping off Dredd and John Wick could work, too.

Or take my idea and rip off Die Hard. Make the Doomguy a normal man driven to increasing levels of badass as he repeatedly fails to get the backup he so strongly desires.


Bunch of space marines got to investigate a research base that has gone dark. They go in but most of them quickly get killed by the demons. Just as the last few survivors are about to be overrun, Doomguy appears from nowhere and starts taking names. The remaining marines fight alongside him into hell and close the portal, as he stays behind to make sure it can't be reopened. Throughout the entire thing he never says a word or removes his helmet, the exposition can all be done by the other characters. You can thank me later Hollywood.

This is a chance for Buddy Dacote to make his appearance and subvert expectations by surviving the whole movie.
 
Been playing around with Doom the Way ID Did and its sequel. While I am having a blast, especially with D2TWID, I don't really see the whole "this would have fit right in with the original" comment I see aimed towards them. Maybe it's because I played the hell out of Doom and Doom II, but the maps just don't "feel" like OG Doom to me. They're certainly awesome, and I love that they're vanilla-compatible since I personally prefer playing Crispy and Chocolate Doom over GZ, but I don't really feel as though they would have fit right in with the original WADs.
 
Been doing a personal Doom vs. Brutal comparison the last week or so. This was my first completion of the original in mostly unaltered form (only mouse and freelook were different from the OG experience) and I absolutely fell in love with it. The original Doom holds up beautifully and after killing the Spider Mastermind I was left wanting more.

I've dicked around with Brutal Doom before so I figured I'd do another full playthrough with Brutal and the Hulshult OST replacer and I was delighted the whole way through. Despite having more of everything, however, the experience felt noticeably more shallow. It was like a very good cake with a ton of icing vs a very good cake with just the right amount of icing. The various "superweapons" added by Brutal like the BFG10K and the Flamethrower were fun but definitely unbalanced.

Andrew Hulshult's OST is incredible as always and the guy deserves all the work he can get.

I feel like Brutal Doom is overhated by detractors and overloved by supporters. The primary problem with both sides is that everyone insists that only one can exist, when both are fun for their own reasons.

I've moved on to Doom 2, but I'm either burnt out on Doom after playing the first 2 and a half times in a row or the level design is getting to me because it's not grabbing me the same way.

I agree with this here. Brutal Doom's fun, but it's a different kind of fun from Doom and one that can also get tiring after a while. Your cake comparison is pretty apt; I love icing and I love cakes with a ton of icing but if I eat too much I'm more liable to get a stomachache vs the right amount of icing where I feel just fine after eating it. I find it better as a "once in a while" kinda thing.

Part of this might have to do with 2's overall weaker level design. 2's got better action than 1, and the addition of the super shotgun opens the game up to using more powerful enemies and larger hordes, but the levels themselves aren't as interesting and some are just outright bad (not to say 1 didn't have bad levels because it certainly did, but 2's got more bad levels in comparison and are a hell of a lot worse: Barrels O' Fun and Downtown being specific examples).

It took a long time for Doom II to click with me, especially when I realized the game just isn't that fun without mouselook (Crispy Doom's a happy medium in that regard). I don't think I even beat it until this year but once it did click I managed to have a lot more fun with it.

Honestly I generally prefer Smooth Doom. Makes the action bloodier and gorier without messing with the core gameplay that makes Doom Doom.
