The future of id Software — alumni from the legendary DOOM studio speaks on its future with Xbox. The good, and the bad.

Some selected quotes:
One person I spoke to recently was Andrew Willis, who was id Software's VFX/Technical Art and Design Producer and most recently worked on DOOM: The Dark Ages and its (very awesome) Revelations DLC.

He explained Microsoft was very blunt with its announcements, which had been rumored in the press for a hot minute. Microsoft told id Software staff not to come into the office on July 6th, then invited everyone onto Microsoft Teams.

"I received a Microsoft Teams invite, there were about 95 of us, no cameras on with chat disabled, everyone muted except [Executive Producer] Marty Stratton. He took about 50 seconds to say that if you were on this call, your positions were eliminated. He said it wasn't a reflection on our performance," Willis explained.

"We're all in on id Tech; we're not moving to Unreal Engine," Stratton tells me. Stratton emphasized that MachineGames, of Wolfenstein fame, also remains all-in on id Tech, and the two studios will collaborate more closely on the tech stack moving forward.

Consider the normal ZTroon audience, then read the following out of the mod's readme for a Hideous Destructor inspired addon, made by the author of the main event:
Well, there's been an interesting development regarding Deathstrider. It's about two weeks late, but raises eyebrows nevertheless. It started in noticing that the Hideosity addon was curiously absent from recent updates. A quick check over to the commit log, and, well, sure enough...

"Small steps?" Wonder what that means? Turns out there's a commit just before that one.

Some sort of bloat reduction? The mod gets frequent updates, so it's not out of the question. Strangely, this one touches 43 different files, which is rather unusual for how the mod normally receives updates, where revisions are made usually around 1 or 2 modules at a time. So what's changed?

Huh...

:lossmanjack:
The mensch ran through his code comments with the LinkedIn filter. Not a single bit of gameplay was touched in that update, just filtering all of the no-no words from his annotations. You could argue that he's just making his writing less abrasive, but the mod on his own site he made mocking faggots during June is also conspicuously missing. I have a sneaking suspicion someone behind the scenes had a troonout and forced him to bend the knee. Or he's got stage 1 troll's remorse. Considering his writing style was still about on that level only two weeks prior to the redaction run, I'm inclined to believe the former. Disappointing either way.

Apologies for doubleposting, but it turns out I have been juked and bamboozled.

Hideosity is back. Because a Gitlab screenshot scrolls all the way across the screen, I'll quote the guy here:
>average celebrity gossip enjoyer thinks I'll bend the knee to the cancer
Live free or die. The LinkedIn filter (lol, saving that one) had nothing to do with that. It was about personal growth, but I understand it can easily come across as being the reddit kind of remorse. Not my intention, sorry.
I guess some people did find the Hideosity addon genuinely fun, the poor bastards. Can't see much of a reason not to restore it, all things considered. Not restoring that *other* addon though. Couple of reasons, none of them relevant. Still hate the motherfuckers, though.
I should have figured he lurks here, all considered. Assumptions work both directions. I consneed Ace, add me to the retards baited counter. As penance I will write a compatibility module for Strife from first principles.

>Automatic updater
The last thing we need is some poorly-secured server, handled by a bunch of vindictive troons that could unleash god knows what kinds of malware on your computer the moment they had a bad HRT injection. It already happened before with Notepad++'s auto updater getting hacked by China.

Because the Doom modding scene desperately needs features like this.

And there's many more that i didn't bother to screenshot.

They also did the retarded shit that modern programs do of saving the config file far away from the actual executable.

Odd. There's supposed to be a bunch of colors but all I am seeing are red flags.

Is there no portable version or was that just not a concern for them? I doubt I'm the only one keeping a DOOM Folder of Theseus on USB sticks.

It did well enough to get DLC. The DLC was good enough that it is regarded as better than it's base game. I think the big corporation is going to be ok with this iteration of the IP.
Thats not a good barometer for success, a lot of DLC is cut content or content that needed extra polishing and couldnt make Gold release. We just saw a Code Vein 2 DLC announcement, and a bunch of games back in the day that didn't do well still fulfilled their season passes. If it was done the content cost nothing to release and would have made some money (better than none), and if it was built from the ground up then it might indicate that the Dark Ages was worth investing such content.
