Everytime someone sends me something from Japan (typically it's like news footage or pro wrassling botches) the footage always looks like it's come straight out of the 1980's.

What's the deal with that? Is Japan based and realizes that 4K is a nigger technology so doesn't bother with it for television and stuff or is there something else I'm unaware of going on here?

In fairness to the Japanese, the more several megabyte unoptimized Javascript libraries get added to every cycle of redesign of western websites, the more I appreciate a website that loads instantly no matter how bad the cell service is and doesn't cause my phone to heat up like the surface of the sun as it tries to process the tsunami of shit it just downloaded just so it could display the images on page.
