A lot of people with unchecked retardation and emotional issues get into metal young then go on to make it their whole identity. I don't think it causes retardation, but I think a lot of it nurtures juvenile rage that retards don't grow out of. Some even believe that rage is cool or individualistic.

I love heavy metal, particularly when every instrument sounds like a roar and the vocalist is scarily coherent.

Geddy Lee from Rush, Snake from Voivod and Ronnie James Dio. Lemmy seemed pretty chill as well. Point being, most of these people are putting on an act onstage and only the spergy ones become borderline lolcows. Even James Hetfield, who I think is a massive fag, is a relatively normal enough dude off stage. He's just kind of a douche to every bassist in the band that isn't Cliff Burton.
