I was fying some nuggets in peanut oil the other day and once the oil cooled I started straining it though a paper towel to reuse later, my husband thought this was insane and said we could just leave the oil in the pot to heat up and use whenever.

I think that is insane because then every time you turn it on you're just re-burning the burned bits of flour and giblets at the bottom of the pot. From a food safety standpoint i suppose if the oil is the proper temp any nasties would die off but that still seems so gross to me? There's like a layer of flour goop at the bottom i don't wanna eat that

What do y'all do? I always watched my parents strain it and store it for later use so I just assumed that's what one does with left over oil from deep fryin

Edit: I just realized I should have put this in cooking, sorry im high

generally, if you want to reuse it later then straining it through a paper towel (or a coffee filter) is a good idea, yes.

but if you know that you will reuse it for the exact same purpose again, and you are a lazy fuck, then you can just leave it in the pot. like, you made nuggets today and you know you will make nuggets again tomorrow, then you can get away with being lazy and just reusing it like that.

but even then, straining/filtering the oil and cleaning the pot in between uses doesn't hurt. gets rid of any residuals from the first cook that could burn up and pollute the second cook with burnt/bitter taste.

I've heard there are techniques involving gelatin and other similar shit that a person can use to purify frying oil which has always seemed intriguing. Like it adheres to all the impurities and settles out into its own layer that you remove or something.

But the few times I've ever used a deep fryer I've just poured out then reused the lard. Deep frying is such a gross process to begin with, it feels more appropriate that way.

Believe it or not I'm not 🤷‍♀️
Still fat (spiritually).

I just use an air fryer
stop bragging

@DumbDude43 Okay yeah this is what I was thinking. I'm not planning on frying anything for a few days (in order to maintain my not overweight status) so leaving a pot of oil just sitting on the stove felt wrong to me, along with all the little bits at the bottom, ick. Thanks for the validation, King

No, after I use a big pot of oil once i immediately dump it down my kitchen sink to give the pipes a scrumptious treat.
