Or any other version of TeX distribution(? or whatever they are) and which are favourite packages?
I like ams packages a lot like amsmath, amssymb and the like. Also tikz ofc. Pretty versatile but a bit overwhelming at times.
It was a bit of a bother to get into but I tend to use LaTeX even for some private documents nowdays if notepad is not sufficient.

I only used it a few times in a class to write reports, I just used a pre-made report and played around to get it to look how I wanted. I do think the final product looks super great.

it is annoying to learn, but once you know it, it is nice to use when writing reports.
i dont remember the name of it, but in one class i used one version that allowed using lua code in it. I used it to write loops that would generate tables of data and that was nice since i was using it for lab reports for a college class and it was very tedious every week to generate multi tables by hand in each report.

I prefer iTeX.

I like LaTeX. There is a memoir package that is real good too. And it has a history of typesetting also.

A huge advantage is tracking things like code using git or friends.

It makes nice looking formulae but tbh I usually save the output as an image and then embed the image because I value my time enough to not format the entire report in latex

I use LaTeX for all my assignments and after 4 years of using it, I can say it's awesome but the learning curve is steep and there's a never ending list of packages to learn about. Here are some examples of what can be done with it:
