I have this a lot but it's gone down the last few years. Lucky for you I had one attack a few days ago. I was on my side facing the door and saw a weird looking long hair guy come in to the bedroom moving like a marionette with out the strings. He comes up to my side of the bed and I see that he's holding what looks like my good silver scissors and flails around trying to stab me. The on the bed cats ignore all of this, and I spend the time trying to will myself to scream no over and over. Finally I woke myself up actually screaming no and woke up my husband.

Thankfully this only happens a few times a year now.

Alright, it's occultism time.

It's called a Mare (as in nightmare), and yes I've encountered them.
They don't always manifest the same way, and you can experiment sleep paralysis if you wake up while it's still there and doing its thing, but most people do not ever wake up or remember anything.

We were visited thrice over the years my wife and I, it mostly acted through daemon visits and emotion possessions, in particular anger. We would feel intense anger/rage in the middle of our sleep, almost wake up a few times, but even if we were emotionally very active, we were somehow forced to go back to sleep right after.
One night I couldn't sleep and was thinking while immobile in bed, it came to visit us at 2-3 AM and I got to see it through my closed eyes while it believed I was sleeping, and I sent it away, it's not combative if you're fully awake and really doesn't want to be witnessed.
I had trouble waking up my wife that was still under the influence and she freaked out after realizing that it actually happened and that she felt extremely angry and abnormally groggy. For a few days afterward she talked about it, very unsettled (she had pretty much no experience of the occult in her life), then the effects of the Mare did its thing and she pretty much forgot everything, the exact same way you would remember a dream after waking up, and if you try to think about it later in the day you absolutely cannot remember the dream, but only remember what you thought about it after waking up.
So she remembers talking about the event and what she did, but she forgot about the event. Might be for the best.

Yes they're not good beings and should be treated as such, but they're not very harmful nor powerful in the end, so heh. Don't worry too much.
