I grew up with the Pocket Edition over a decade ago, and even when I bought a PC I still kept everything vanilla (minus QoL mods like OptiFine and later Sodium). Tried adding some basic non-game breaking stuff like muskets/flags/minor terrain generation enhancement mods to the game and I came crawling back to vanilla pretty quickly.

Everyone I know doesn't like it, especially in singleplayer. The most common criticism I hear is that it feels like a "glorified tech demo" or something similar. Personally I've never had a problem with the game being basic in its default state, I even enjoy playing unmodded B1.7.3 from time to time. Just wondering if I'm crazy.

I'm a bit of a kneejerk purist with vidya. Modded anything just doesn't sit right with me.
It's not even a principle thing. There's just some deep seeded autism within me that gets inexplicably pissed off when I see people playing modded shit, even for games I couldn't care less about.

I enjoy vanilla on certain days depending on my mood. Sometimes its with nostalgia glasses or sometimes I just feel too overwhelmed with Minecraft constantly updating to even bother catching up with half the shit mojang keeps adding

I only play it with the mod that lets all of the log blocks fall when using an axe though.

Yeah, I like to play it in hardcore and LARP a bit. I'll spend the first day gathering everything I can and then from then on out I live underground entirely for the rest of the playthrough. The goal of which is to make tons of farms and be really self-sufficient, with the idea that the surface is all apocalyptic and dead. I did like playing around with one of the mod packs before that had gears and stuff. It's nice to fuck around and engineer things.

Anyone who doesn't enjoy the vanilla experience of a game just doesn't like that game. Extra shit is always fun but it's just extra detail, if the core experience of exploring, gathering materials, fighting monsters, crafting items, and building isn't enough you just don't like minecraft.

It's hard to say for me since I was never to most hardcore Minecraft player and thus can't segment my experiences, even not including the fact that Minecraft's enjoyability to me is waning. Though I will say that when it comes to modding in general for any games, I pretty much only focus on QoL mods. Anything that enhances (Not change) anything about the base game for the most stability, performance, etc..., I'm all ears for. Modding games in the way that is usually thought of (Adding a bunch of custom content) doesn't really interest me.

Even the mods that I have for Minecraft that could be considered changing an element of the base game, Tree Harvester and Ore Harvester, aren't anything out of place like a mod that adds a new enemy would be. Basically, I like vanilla anything with only mods or enhancements that make the game more enjoyable to play and I only mod the shit out of games if I'm interested.

Every time I've tried to play Minecraft I end up making AFK farms for everything which implies my ideal Minecraft experience is playing it as little as possible so I guess not.

No. I like to have some more life in the game so I just get mods that do that. Like having more animals. Having machinery. Stuff like that.
