I've literally never heard of furries having any kind of following or any traction in Japan despite their love of cat girls and cuddly furry things, it seems to be a purely Western thing...which is pretty odd since degenerate shit practically started in Japan.

Well, I never hear about westerners being fucked by fish, so I am not sure about the trade off.

Degenerates is a world wide thing, and it takes many forms. They don't have the same cartoon culture, so surely, they have other ways to be degenerates. I imagine.

Yes, there are Japanese furries. They call it ‘Kemono’ and generally have a different style of drawing to western furries.

You also gotta remember the guy who literally invented anime
Dr. Osamu Tezuka didn't invent anime (or manga) as they were already invented before he was born. Granted most of the pre-WWII anime had been destroyed during the War. Anime and manga as we know them now are through the efforts of Tezuka and others of his generation picking up the pieces and re-creating them after WWII had ended.
