Do cats have the ability to think?

I have two cats and often find myself wondering if they have the ability to think or are creatures of pure instinct.

They absolutely have the ability to think, they might not think as much as we do but they think.

My cat used to play with toy mice even knowing they were toys, so I think they have an imagination at least? They also dream.

I don't know about other cats, but mine gets constantly ragebaited by a cat that he sometimes sees through the window, so I don't think he's much of a thinker to be honest.

They definitely can think, but a significant portion of a cat is still a creature of instinct.

It depends a LOT on the cat and breed how much they think though. It also depends on how comfortable they are, they think a lot more when they're not uneasy or scared due to territorial concerns. They will try to climb smooth vertical walls like a retard when they're scared.

I think cats have more conscious thought than dogs or other trainable animals. Cats can't reliably be trained because even if they know what they are being commanded to do, they make a decision whether or not to comply.

More importantly, every cat is capable of thinking that you're a little bitch.

Weird question with an obvious answer, what you wanted to ask for it to make more sense would be if cats are sentient creatures.

Which they are, even if to a lesser degree than other lifeforms.

They're sapient so that means they have the ability to think and feel. And while cats are on the smarter side and thus in the same camp as canines, corvids and cephalopods they don't have human levels of intelligence. Thus while being sapient they aren't sentient.

Cats are expressive in their eyes, you can read their emotions and living around them teaches a lot of their body language. You can make detente with strays just by slow blinking at them.
