I'm so proud at the artist being reeeeally careful to show her hammerhead heritage. Much respectful.

Her behavior in interviews and the fact no one has reined the bitch in is shocking, there's professionalism. I am glad the little bitch has 2 more roles left then she is done.
It's pretty understood as long a you're on the Right Side, you can behave however you wan. She could go on a tirade about how white people are evil and she wants them all to die and nothing would happen.

Yet Tinkerbells mysterious glow is too unrealistic, somehow. (Hint: it's her skin, hair and clothes that glow)
Fairies glow because there's an old association between fairness, brightness and beauty, especially for women. It's the same reason Tolkiens elves have that supernatural glow around them, they're supposed to look beautiful, yet otherworldly. It's more playful for fairies, but it's the same principle.
So you would cast people who looked pale or make them pale and sparkly through effects, but in the current political climate you can't cast only pale people for anything, so not only are you obligated to cast black people in roles that are opposite to their looks, you're not allowed to change their looks to fit their roles!
So what do you do with fairies, the literal fair folk? Folks that are radiant and fair by their fundamental fucking design? Apparently you shrug your shoulders and say "Why do fairies glow anyway?" This is what happens when you change the design so much that it no longer works, without putting in anything new to replace it.
Even people trying to sell you this crap instinctively realize that "black skin radiating light" is visually nonsensical. The artists in charge of this studied color theory. They can explain to you why pale redheads look good in green dresses and what tanned blondes should wear instead. But you inverse the skincolors of established characters and they all pretend it makes no difference.
I don't actually have a problem with black elves or fairies or whatever, but you have to develop a color and lighting scheme that fits them. Currently all Disney is doing is copy and pasting black people into spots white people used to be and expecting praise for their artistic bankrupcy.

Even Tinkerbells black friend (who is a light fairy lol) at least had sparkles braided in her hair. And she's light enough that a glow surrounding her wouldn't look weird.
Though really, they could've also easily just put a bit of golden bodypaint on her, they just didn't because then they can't viture signal.

I'm very curious on wtf they're gonna do with Tiger Lilly....
She has an actress, so she's gonna be in, but...

Even if they make it 'good representation', that makes it seem like realistic natives are just as fictional as mermaids and fairytale pirates.
The whole point of neverland was that is was a storybook world with storybook people who don't actually exist in the real world, at least not in that form.
The stereotypical natives were in the original because most British kids had never even seen a real Native, like they've never seen a real pirate, and so as something only known from exaggerated and made up stories it makes sense that they would be in the storybook/playtime/etc world.
Realistic Native Americans would be very random and out of place in that world.

SERIOUSLY, stop talking.

X should be for everybody is the most motte and bailey argument of the modern age
Y'know what? I actually agree with the director. Movies should be for everyone. Only "everyone" in this case also includes those who don't purchase COEXIST bumper stickers that have every available political heiroglyph but the hammer and sickle they actually mean, then slap it next to an EAT THE RICH bumper sticker.

The Frozen Ever After ride is notorious for breaking down and it takes ages to restart. I was in line for it and a group was in front of me when the queue got closed and we were told to leave and given passes to come back later. They acted like you had taken their first born and spiked it like a football in front of them. It was like not going on that ride was going to kill them and I'm stuck behind them unable to leave the queue until they move so i got a nice front row seat and an extra fast pass for dealing with their shit.
The most messed up thing is the newer rides break down the most often. Frozen is relatively simple being a retheme of an old ride. It breaks down more often too. You would think newer rides would be more stable not less.

It also takes them a billion years to build any ride when they literally controlled the permit people for years. Meanwhile universal is gonna shit out a new minions ride (including getting rid of the old ride) in less than a year. Universal is poaching the skilled maintenance staff too from the rumours and the people who can build shit in that part of florida. Universal is gonna get a whole damn park up in less time than it took Disney to do Tron.

I think it's much easier to do representation in animation, because ultimately "representation" is a tokenistic effort meant to fill certain boxes and doesn't reflect the real world. So when you need for people to look a certain way, you can just draw them that way.
Like how in Lilo and Stitch Hawaiians are very brown and bignosed, but when you look about the real world there aren't enough of that type to fill a studio set.
I remember reading how High School Musical was filmed at a school that's mostly hispanic, but you wouldn't know that from the film because Disney deployed their usual "diversity" of: mostly whites, equal parts blacks and hispanics, few asians. If they'd stuck with the real demographics it would have been more diverse, because fewer whites, but also super racist, because no blacks.
In order to do representation and anti-racism "correctly", you always end up distorting the real world. Everybody knows it's bullshit, but it's carefully balanced bullshit.

Disney put all the merch up today for the new little mermaid movie. Their entire ad campaign email was just black people featuring the items. Kinda goes against diversity doesn't it Disney?

It's almost as if the term "diversity" is a very loose and nebulous term that can be twisted and contorted into anything you want it to mean so long as it adheres to the narrative.

What's the point of having a Black Tinker Bell (despite already having another Black fairy), if you don't make her glow. Modern Disney isn't known for basic cinematography, let alone kinography. The trailer's darkness can straight-up hide her with bad lighting.

More importantly, she has one thing that even the actual Tinker Bell lacks, the Tinkerbunda. They're trying to dim the glow, to hide the goods.

No, but seriously, the trailer's got a weird lighting, it just looks kinda gloomy for Neverland.

don't get me wrong
all movies are for all people, just like all video games for all people.. etc.
but the reason i called it motte and bailey is that they use that argument to put in blatant tokens
all media doesn't mean any one specific media is for all people
there will be movies they don't want to see
there will be movies not made for them
they need to get over that

then again they have this delusion that up until 2015 every movie was for cishet white christian males
just like how every video game ever was a hyper violent fps where a white male beats up women for no reason

I dunno, right now Disney's having trouble dealing with the government on the state level. Desantis absolutely is on the warpath against Disney right now after the recent shit they pulled on him.
It's mostly kabuki theater to try to compete with Trump's red meat. Disney seems to already have circumvented DeSantis' toothless law.

iirc The Simpsons ride makes a joke about getting a bunch of former designers from "the other guys"

weird. I recall Maelstrom being pretty reliable for the core mechanics, even if the effects were hit or miss.

They use these new rear projected animinatronics that when they fail ate nightmare fuel which shuts it down
