Amazing it was that long ago.
That was the first movie I saw in theatres. I was three. I fell in love with it at once, as did my mom. It's legit my favorite of the princess-style movies, I've always been an avid reader so I immediately identified with Belle even as a kid. And I've always loved at how her relationship with the Beast developed over the course of a season, instead of just instantly falling in love with him. And of course the wonderful music and beautiful CAPS animation.

Yeah, as far as Disney movies based on fairy tales go, Beauty & the Beast is, if not the outright best, at least in the top 5 (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid being the other 4).

Disney kept fuckin 'em all up though

de Villeneuve's La Belle et la Bete was basically an 18th century incel anthem.

When you shower Belle with all your riches and your talking candles and shit and she just like "oh I just like you as a friend, can I go see my fam now"

It's Disney. Making their movies adaptations in name only is the name of their game. I mean, a Disney version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame sounds like a parody, and yet, they did it. If you want a more accurate version of Beauty & The Beast, try the 1946 version.

Anyone else here seen videos speaking on Disney World trying to price people out?
I have been finding these interesting videos talking about how Disney have been getting overcrowded as they are buying more franchises and the economy had gone up. In turn, the parks are becoming overcrowded with no slow seasons. To fix the issue, Disney is getting more expensive and offering less to deter people with weaker incomes and season pass holders from coming.

This two parter series discusses it better than I could:

I honestly wanted to go to Disney next year as a college graduation celebration, but I am not sure if I do anymore. It sounds like the parks have gotten more crowded and shittier since I went back in early 2015. Maybe I will go to Universal instead, but that park is not a week trip and I kind of want to save it for when they get Nintendo stuff.

I've never thought of Disney as "affordable" in any way. I remember the ads in the 1990's saying that it was ONLY $2000 for a family of four for a 5 day stay. Using a quick inflation calculator that's $4253 now.

The only people in my area who went to Disney World were the sorts who took out second mortgages for spending money.

Fuck Disney World, even Disneyland is pricing out the locals. The AP with no blackout dates is like $1000 and a single day single park ticket is $120 I think (Knott's is half that when you buy online), it's not even worth going to, especially with the open contempt they have for their customers and fanbase.

Eh, go midweek in the middle of January. There are times you can go to Disney World where it's not super crowded.

the parks were overcrowded ever since they put in fastpass
they were designed with the idea that people would be in line and not milling around at random
for me WDW went from "not _cheap_ but affordable if you did it right" to "fuck this" by the mid 00s as the Dining Plan finished killing all the decent food options
iirc through my job I can probably hustle up a couple of free one-day tix but honestly for all the bullshit of the reservations and apps I don't care. The parks I loved have been gone for a while anyway.

I feel like they can get away with higher prices in CA given that more people are willing to come since unlike Orlando, there's not really any strong competition (Knott's has comparatively little theming, and Universal has very few decent rides) and the blogging scene seems much larger there which attracts more people.

I can believe it. So, I've only been a few times but one of my mom's weird quirks is that any place that has a carousel, we have to go on it. So we're in line for the carousel, they open the gate to let the next batch of people on, and this young zoomer couple with a toddler (like two at the absolute most) shove past me and sprint to the Jingle Bells (or whatever it's name is) horse. Where they proceeded to take several smug selfies with a small kid that really obviously gave no shits about the whole thing. Was sad more than anything else though since they were more interested in the instant social media cred than spending time with their kid in the few minutes they were in my line of sight.

I went to Disney World a few years ago as it was one of the stops of a cruise ship run, and it was... alright.

The cruise ship only allowed for a couple hours to see stuff, and most of that time in the actual part was just spent waiting in a line an hour two for Animal Kingdom, and another hour or two was spent just waiting for a reservation in a restaurant.

I've been to Disney a couple times, first time was back in the 80s for a school trip as a kid, and it seemed more fun to be in then the last time I want there. Disney seemed more inviting back then, now it just seems like it just wants your money. I feel bad for the park cast members though, they seem like fun people who are trying the best they can with an employer like Disney.

Yeah fastpass was designed around the idea that they'd get people out of lines and into gift shops while they were wandering around so Disney could make more money out of their guests.

Except that really didn't happen. They just wander around now. That area in Animal Kingdom in the Africa zone where the band plays stands out to me as being particularly awful since it's just wall-to-wall people most of the day.

Disney fans could be a consoomer thread all of their own, those stupid ears, spirit jerseys and the overpriced snacks in the theme parks that are brightly coloured sugar bombs. Disney could price a t shirt at $50 and there'll be people who haaaave to have it because it has Lilo & Stitch on it.

Oh yeah, and the entitlement. There are a shit load of entitled people.

You're wrong, World was built for the international market and has just as much competition but also more parks. Disneyland was built to be done in a day and price gouging just pisses people off, especially when the gift shops and food already up charge. Sounds like you're shilling for the absurd price hikes.

Disney Bounding is probably the most consoomer thing I have seen. The idea is that Disney will not allow grown adults to larp as characters in the parks, so to get around being unable to wear costumes, they design clothes that are reminiscent of characters. It is a fashion trend that many bring outside the park, and I can only imagine how weird it must be for any potential children of these couples.
I say this video is inaccurate. There was not a single fat white chick larping as a Nightmare Before Christmas character.

Some of these fans even host in costume weddings. You have to feel bad for the parents that have to participate in this.

Somebody in San Fran agrees.....

Bay Area Disneyland passholder sues for ‘deceptive’ practices in $5 million lawsuit

A Bay Area woman — and Disneyland passholder — is suing Disney’s theme parks over what she alleges are deceptive practices regarding its Magic Key passes, the Orange Country Register reported. In the $5 million lawsuit, Santa Clara County resident Jenale Nielsen claims that Disneyland is artificially limiting its capacity at the park for its passholders. In her suit, she noted that while she had purchased a $1,399 Dream Key annual pass, which is the most expensive one available, she encountered many blackout dates, including weekends, when she tried to make a reservation for November.

However, the suit claims that “Disney advertised and promised there would be no ‘blockouts’ for Dream Keyholders.” And while Magic Key passholders were allegedly blocked from making reservations because of Disneyland’s cap on the number of passholders who can reserve entry on a given day, single-day and multi-day tickets were still available. Eventually, Nielsen had to purchase a single-day ticket for the date she wanted to visit Disneyland, despite being a Dream Key passholder. “Ms. Nielsen reasonably believed and relied upon Disney’s advertisement and promise to mean that, if Disney had capacity at its Anaheim parks, Ms. Nielsen and her fellow Dream Key pass holders would be allowed to make reservations and visit the parks,” the lawsuit contends. Because Nielsen resides in California and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is based in Florida, and because it concerns more than $5 million, the suit was moved to Federal Court on Dec. 15.

“We have been clear about the terms of the Magic Key product and we know that many of our guests are enjoying the experiences these passes provide,” Disney spokesperson Liz Jaeger told the Los Angeles Times. “We will vigorously defend our position as the case proceeds.” While the suit is not yet a class-action suit, Nielsen has requested that the U.S. District Court certify it as such to include the other 3,600 Dream Key passholders.

I was pretty much saying that the price gouging is likely going to be more normal going forward, especially with current management.

Sadly. Yesterworld talked about how the recent price hikes have been the biggest percentage of all the price hikes Disney has done and Defunctland did some interesting research that pretty much implies that getting rid of the FastPass would makes things better and decongest the parks.
