A disgraced NHS doctor who made a boy’s penis “explode” has been ordered to pay back just £1. Mohammad Siddiqui, 58, left children “screaming” in agony after charging £250 for the barbaric procedures.
The former paediatrician would often strap his patients to a board and use just cream as an anaesthetic. During one particularly gruesome op on a dining room table in Bristol, a boy’s penis “exploded” – causing him to almost die. He would often not wash his own hands before performing the procedures, and would rarely sanitise the scissors or the penises of the victims.
Siddiqui was arrested five times and told by police not to carry out any more barbaric procedures. But he ignored them until he was remanded in custody.
Over a five year period, Siddiqui was said to have "cut corners and caused unnecessary pain, suffering, cruelty and risk" to "maximise profits" on his £300 operations - all of which were done by appointment at the family homes of patients.
Siddiqui had initially denied 39 charges and defended himself in a two month trial at Southwark Crown Court. But he admitted 25 charges during the prosecution case sparing the jury from listening to further gory details.
The charges relate to 21 boys and date from between 5 April 2014 and 31 January 2019.
Siddiqui was thrown out of the medical profession in 2015 for performing circumcisions on young boys in dirty and unsafe conditions while working at Southampton General Hospital.
However, he carried on regardless and used anaesthetic Bupivacaine Hydrochloride - even though he was barred from doing do.
Judge Noel Lucas jailed Siddiqui for five years and seven months in January.
He was handed a serious crime prevention order lasting for five years after his release from prison.
Siddiqui returned to Croydon Crown Court today (thurs) for a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
His benefit from criminal conduct was put at just £4,097 but due to lack of realiseable assets Judge Lucas ordered he pay a nominal sum of just £1.
Siddiqui, who represented himself at his latest hearing, was given 28 days to pay £1 or serve another day in jail in default.
Earlier the judge had told him: "Despite your experience, you repeatedly performed circumcisions in a non-sanitary manner.
"In each case, you failed to take adequate care in how you performed circumcisions. Dr Siddiqui, it must be clearly understood by anyone of whatever religion who performs circumcisions that if they fail to carry out the procedure carefully, they will risk prosecution and a potential prison sentence."
After searching his car, cops found a rusty hook with a serrated wheel and bloodied scissors with tests showing they had traces of human skin on them.
An angry Siddiqui later said in a courtroom outburst that the allegations against him were "lies", adding: "The scissors and skin was all planted by the police. My blood is boiling."
Ben Douglas-Jones, KC, prosecuting, said: "His approach to the criminal proceedings meant that Southwark Crown Court had to devote one of its precious courts for six months to accommodate him.
"This case is unprecedented in the experience of all parties in this court room. It extended to solicitors within the specialist fraud division.'
The former doctor was born in Pakistan and undertook his medical training there before coming to the UK, a court heard.
Siddiqui, of Anchor Green, Birmingham, admitted 12 counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, eight counts of wrongly administering a prescription only medicine, and five counts of cruelty to a person under sixteen.
He had denied further nine counts of cruelty to a person under sixteen and five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Those charges were ordered to lie on file.
