New league dropped, new class, and yet even that can't bring me to play this game again. I like remasters on paper but man, is the gameplay itself archaic. There's a line between nostalgia and comforts of modern gaming and D2 is just too far past that line at this point.
See that's exactly why I love it. I despised Diablo 3 and only played it to make money during the time the RMAH era, and D4 was just something I passed on entirely. D2 is as it's always been and if they had updated it to be modern it would be like, why not just play D4 is how I would see it. I get it though if it's just too annoying to get back into for you for sure.

But as someone else said below, you might enjoy warlock. It's busted as fuck overpowered and doesn't play anything like the other classes with its high APM and such.

And i'm not sure if it helps to know but resurrected did bring many updates to the stash and the DLC did as well. It's true though in the end D2 is still a remnant of its time but that's why I love it.
It's 40 bucks right now on ps4 for the standard version, and they have the warlock advertising it so I'm guessing/hoping he's included and I don't have to pay the $25 extra or whatever the dlc was
Yeah you get warlock in the pack for $40 if you lack resurrection. It's on Steam and I picked it up for the steamdeck. It' shocked me when I saw it was verified right out of the gate since Blizzard just put it on Steam the same day lock came out. It runs flawlessly on deck and uses the controller settings so well. I was thoroughly impressed.

I had awore off Blizzard after they started their mass censorship of everything. Can't have emotes like /spit, /moan anymore in WoW. Jokes have to be removed, Garrosh can't say bitch anymore, low pixel paintings changed from pretty women to bowls of fruit etc. Never wanted to give them another dime but Classic WoW and now D2R broke that. Ah well, must consume I suppose.
Summon necro is actually, factually unplayable without enigma.
Pfft, don't make me become the old man preaching back in my day we didn't have Enigma. Namby pamby teleport. You walk with your army of skellys and you enjoy it dammit.

You're talking to someone who used to always ladder start with barbarian out of pure disdain for sorc. Yesterday was literally my first time rolling a different class first on reset.
That being said, I never finished LoD Hell with necro. I can't imagine summons living for more than a few seconds under all that constant projectile spam.

Just picked up the ps4 version this morning. First impressions after about 20 minutes it's not as bad as I thought it'd be. It's gonna take a little time getting used to moving my character to face enemies and attack instead of clicking everything but it's ok so far. First thing I had to do was move attack/skill 1 to the square button so X can be strictly for interacting and picking up items. It sucks losing one button for skills but you can toggle a 2nd bar with L2 so there's still 10 slots for skills instead of 12, and I'm just running around with a Barbarian now to get a feel for things so I doubt I'm going to use all the slots. Warlock was included so I'll be checking him out next. One flaw I'm seeing right away is getting some lag just running around a private online game, but it's not too major, just freezes for less than a second. I don't plan on playing with other people anyways, unless one of my friends decides to pick up the game or if I have to do some kind of event. I know terror zones are a thing to get the really good end game shit but I'm a long ways from that. It's already worth it for me with all the QOL features and having multiple tabs in the stash instead of the 1 in the classic game. Now time to grind away hundreds of hours of my life.

Unfortunately my solo hell adventure came to a brief stop in A2 as I forgot about the fucking tomb mummies that were immune to magic, so I had to join a "a2 help" like game to hopefully find some people who had other damage types on them, and holy shit, the amount of death I witnessed. I don't know if these were just clueless newbs or stoners but everyone in that party except me died like 30 times to completely random trash. Worse yet, I saw them just trail behind me without casting a single spell. A cold sorc was just strutting by doing nothing watching me plink away at the health of enemies. Sadly the run was cut short because some lv90 dickhead joined and killed Diablo before we could get to him. Took another game to kill him, ancients and Baal. Then I went back to do my hellforge, and lo and behold:

First time in 25 years that I saw a max drop. Now I only have to trick some poor sucker into trading it for two Ists.
edit: good day today. Bitch never gave me anything above Ko, maybe.

Just got to act two in diablo 2. Warlock is pretty fun class so far. been spending points on echoing blade. Is there any point in upgrading the shield skill or should i just dump it all on EB?

everything into EB, the mirror move, and the passive to make all of it better
you want the Demon eventually too, the conscriptable one.

Hint: if you're doing offline singleplayer, go into the game's launch options and type -enablerespec. This will allow you to respec your stats and skills an unlimited amount of times, iirc by holding alt and pressing the + next to any stat in the character window. There's few worse feelings than putting points into a skill only to realize it sucks (looking at you, grim ward).
edit: there is in fact a worse feeling, namely realizing Conviction doesn't lower magic resistance. I've been hunting these uniques for FUCKING NOTHING. :stress:
I'll have to get the death sigil skill for magic immunes.

Nigger WHAT?! :stress:

I haven't touched D2 in years. Not being able to respec was probably my biggest gripe and why I haven't felt like playing again (well that and my CPU got fried while playing D2 and I always blamed it and never went back. I hit it with some new thermal paste though and it was fine afterwards but I never reinstalled D2 to find out if that was the cause. I do have a completely new rig at this point though.). This is a game changer.

Fuck, I feel really dumb for not playing D2R sooner. I mean it's good that I waited to get the warlock included, but I still feel I've been wasting the last 2 or 3 months playing the classic game for my Diablo fix. The QOL features are just too good, especially the ones they just added having gems/runes on their own tabs and being able to have the Cube interface in the stash to quickly move stacks for transmuting. I'm comfortable now using the controller, at least for my Barb. It works really nice to have my attacks on the main skill bar, then I can toggle and have all my shouts in a row to hit them quickly and switch back. Leap attack having splash damage now makes it so fun to use. I love leaping into a group, hitting a couple double swings, and watching them all drop. The lag spikes I mentioned are actually more of a problem than I thought, or at least it happens more frequently than I'd like. It's still not fucking me up too bad but I can see myself getting accidental deaths from it in later difficulties. It's going to suck later once I try to play a hardcore character to get all the achievements, but Warlock should be busted enough to get it done, or I can try Necro with a huge skeleton army I can hide behind. Right now it's too much fun running around with the Barbarian, plus I managed to get a Gull dagger early in Act 1 with 100% magic find so I'm using him to get all the early gear I can to give my other characters a head start.

Are you talking about infinite respec?

You get a respec for doing the Den of Evil Decard Cain quest in each difficulty. I assumed that was in base LoD but I'm pretty sure it's been around since before the big update that added skill synergies.(~Mid 2000s)

I've noticed it on PC too, when D2R came out (after the hype died down) there wasn't any problems with the servers. Recently though hasn't been great.

Is there a way to do it in OG LoD? Seems like that command is for Resurrected only (and I'm not about to use one of the three free respecs if I can help it).

wow, I just found out that thanks to the notorious llamanigger sunder charm drops have been moved exclusively to heralds. I have seen exactly 5 of them after countless single TZs and clearing 7 whole terrorized acts. I guess fuck every build that isn't hammerdin or abyss warlock, amirite? Might explain why abyss seem to be significantly more popular than apocalypse despite having like 90% less raw damage.

Not that I know of. I remember there being a mod called "EZ mod" or something similar which allowed you to buy consumables from merchants, but that was before respect tokens existed.
You can try this mod, since it removes some of the tedium and allows the crafting of respec tokens with trivial mats like town scroll + identify scroll.

I am pretty sure plugY mod offers infinite respecs since forever. It also adds infinite stash, ladder rune words, uber quests etc etc

i did my walk through act three last night, finished off Duriel only died once my merc ate most of it and died no biggie.

He dropped a decent unique falcion sword using that now, walking through start of act 3 getting the WP's. Warlock absolute eats those little blow dart fucks, I loathed them so that's a nice change, next thing i know i've got set pieces dropping left right and centre.

Got a cathans pieces which is meh, tabmans gloves and a kris. I've never had that kind of luck before. Although all my rings and boots have at least 15% MF on it so that's probably helping a bit. I'm still in normal just walking to the Trav.

Also found a Windhammer and Azurewrath today. The kiwi that mentioned TZs being busted for magic find wasn't kidding, they are. I have zero MF.

Lock is ridic lol, act 2 might merc and nightmare lister with fanatic aura mogging hell difficulty. Abyss for physical immune enemies. Would be even better if it was cursed hephaesto with conviction prob lol
