So as I've said before I find Devon unwatchable (and had barely any clue who he was pre-Merge) and have never finished one of his videos, although I suffered through most of his TikTok for doxing purposes (he likes to pace and film himself with a phone and thus provides basically a panorama of his room) and sometimes I skip around in his YouTube stuff to make sure he's not addressing anything of actual consequence. But anyway, I know many if not most people who read this thread feel the same way and honestly? I feel like we might be missing out on some fucking funny stuff.
I was watching his "Three Year Anniversary and Plan for the Future" special,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uQWQ91Fu7k because I needed somthing else and came across this gem towards the beginning--
"The day after Halloween is also GiBi Day ... November 1st, 2018 was the first time I uploaded a Chris Chan video to my channel. I had been making YouTube videos since April of 2014 and had amassed a whopping total of 20 subscribers. But November 1st, 2018 was the day that that all changed. On that day, I recorded glorious audio on my phone with the only visual being a two-second looping GIF of C3PO dancing, and that video got me everything I have today."
GiBi Day. Once more I'm a bit stunned. I don't even have a witticism. And, arrogant and smug little julay-ass motherfucker that he may be, he's not entirely wrong. Focusing on Chris content changed his life. He achieved what so many clout-chasers of his type can only dream of: he created viral content. Estimating YouTuber revenue is notoriously difficult, but according to
one estimation, he could make approximately $1,000 a month and $1,000 per sponsorship (good luck finding one of those lol.) While not a stratospheric amount of money relative to the earnings of some content creators, this would be more than enough to change the life of a man who until then had been working selling concessions in a movie theatre, an occupation which probably would have given him an income somewhere in the neighborhood of
$30,000 yearly.
Chris and ILJ content had been demonitized right after the Merge but Chris content at least can be monetized again, so he's still doing his grift. It's too bad that his star is setting rapidly. The fact that there's no new Chris content is going to fuck him, but the very fact that Chris is more notorious is fucking him too, because people realize there's better sources of information, and Devon's bizarre delivery is just grating. And this is not to mention the continuous scandals. What will next week bring? Is Devon already headed down the Road of the Gunt, just 12 or so years younger, but with bottle of Seroquel instead of a bottle of Maker's? Stay tuned.
