I feel like there's a difference in saying how a system should work in an ideal implementation versus how it works in practice. If something is hard to get working in reality when it should be easy in theory, it usually means the theory is wrong (see: socialism).

Public healthcare falls into that "works in theory but not in practice" option, since a LOT needs to go correctly in order for it to not collapse under its own weight. You need a government that isn't corrupt (or is, at least, able to weather the thieves within the system). You need a society that values its health and self-actualization, one that sees going on the public dole as an embarrassment and not a long-term solution AND that doesn't think that their degrading health can only be solved with surgeries, pills, and lipo. You also need a system that actually incentivizes people to go into medicine; the government can promise healthcare as much as it wants, but without doctors to actually provide those services you're leaving those promises unfulfilled and the populace unhappy.

A public option is...fine, but it's a bandaid solution in systems like the US one that barely addresses the primary hurdle (the cost) as a welfare benefit. If it's the ONLY option, you absolutely will butt up against cases where the government will begin using it to oppress its citizens. On the mild side, it's just doctors "gently encouraging" MAID to fuel organ harvesting. In the middle, it's the government compelling treatments (like the covid jab) as prereqs for anything in society. And the extreme end, it's the government forcing people to be doctors at gunpoint because we promised people healthcare, dammit.

Kinda tying this back to Dev, I can see this utopianistic thinking as the primary reason for why he's calling Sargon a fascist now, since Dev has a pretty cut-and-dry view of how the world ought to work and thinks that it does work like that - Trump is breaking the system, but Carney's Canada is doing just A-OK. Whereas Sargon has seen that Liberalism has eroded the guardrails that Western governments instated to avoid the establishment of ideological extremes, and now severe corrective measures need to be taken before the whole thing implodes.

However, Liberalism's stances on certain issues (LGBT+, Immigration, and Foreign Policy) has reached the point where compromise is no longer possible. Or to put it simply, Liberalism has reached the point where ANY conservative position runs directly against it. The joke of "Everything Right of Stalin is far-right" is no longer a joke anymore. It's reality. And as a result, Liberalism is running wild like a pitbull that broke its leash.

Carl is reaching the conclusion that keeping that pitbull on a leash may no longer be possible, whereas Dev is desperately trying to shame the Right to do just that and ignore the very real danger of being bit by it.

The problem Short Fat Retard has is he often forgets the environment/situation that the system is in, is as important as the system itself. An example of this will be in the next part of the reply which talks about his vid.
But in general, Liberalism as a system was good despite it's issues because it had a counterbalance in conservatism keeping it in check. When the counterbalance vanished and the progs and socialists basically hijacked the system by calling themselves "liberals" (until the environment became easier for them to go mask off), liberalism went off the rails and that's how you get shit like unlimited immigration or "trans kids" or whatever fucked up shit has been pushed for the last 12 years or so.
So what may work well in a vacuum, or in a more "balanced society" (pro-LGBT stuff, tolerance of foreign cultures, etc) no longer works when it's slid off into absolute madness (convincing 10 year olds they're trans, Allahu Up-Yours, etc.).
