There's an old comment from ages ago that essentially was a realization about censorshuip when it comes to the hard left and correspondingly moderates from my era, and why it is you've seen so many people who railed against censorship in the past turn right around and embrace it wholly.
Most normal people who oppose censorship can choose from a pick-and-mix of rationales for why they despise it: It almost always makes works worse, it's often arbitrary and pointless, it can undercut a work's meaning, and allowing i opening the doorway to worse later on just to name a few. And then you have the opportunists - Dev among them - who don't actually care about any of this shit - they will pretend they do, use the same language, but the underwriting logic of why they're doing it is completely different: they stand against censorship because
they currently aren't the ones doing it.
Dev will spin a good yarn about this not being the case, but it absolutely is in his case. Back when Dev first became relevant, he did so by covering the Autism Holy War, but unlike other content creators who actually deep dived into it and covered shit like
the CON Log Leaks, Dev covered mostly safer shit. And for this particular post, Dev's failure to cover those is telling - the leaks are a collection of Logs from Crash Override Network's Skype chat (and also some of their Trello logs) covering CON attempting to cover for Sarah Nyberg's pedophilia, changing Wikipedia articles and pressuring websites to go along with CON's narrative, and actively conducting GayOps to silence their critics. The logs are absolutely real, and you can tell because they have active timestamps that line up to the minute with events that were happening on various websites as they were being discussed in real time - a level of autistic detail that is essentially impossible to falsify. It's a quite literal smoking gun, catching Quinn's entire coterie of worthless tagalongs doing the very behaviors they complain about with absolutely no self-awareness (and mostly, to protect one of their own who was a self-admitted pedophile).
He never covered any of the most heinous shit they did. No coverage of Anita and Quinn going before the UN arguing unironically that the whole internet should be censored because of their feelings, no coverage of when Quinn MeToo'd Alec Holowka and led directly to his suicide (which led to his personal finances being scooped by his deranged sister and funneled into Baby Ghost, one of the precursor companies behind SBI), no coverage of CON being given actual fucking time at Google and Facebook and advising them how to best censor shit, none of it, despite the Autism Holy War being fundamental to Dev's channel having relevance in the first place. Which isn't to say Dev didn't do some decent content in that era - he did, it's why he gained subs.
But it does make the holes in his coverage pretty unusual - until you take a closer look at the community Dev has cultivated behind the scenes.
What does Dev do behind closed doors?
Exactly what Blowey Zoe and her little cabal of fuckheads did - actively try to fuck with their enemies, constantly conducting GayOps towards that end, lying, harassing, threatening people, and more. Forget the terrible optics of Dev's monumentally retarded Pikamee take: Anyone casually following the bullshit his fucking circle of friends
have tried to do (and continue to try to do) to Kirsche will walk away with the understanding that Dev is cut from the exact same cloth as Quinn's shitheads and deserves all of the ridicule he gets and more.
His better works can be legitimately interesting, but all of that is couched behind the caliber of people he associates with. He has his own
Jake Alley in DFD, his own
Arthur Chu in Spooki, and his own
Dan Olson in Rage. His community is constantly embroiled in GayOps and has ample evidence of his group doing the exact same shit Zoe's group did, minus the active deplatforming and debanking efforts.
His channel was defined by opposition to Quinn's narrative machine, and due to his mismanagement, he has now essentially has cloned it and used it for the stupidest shit ever.
