In the hardcore DMC fanbase, it’s like 🛡 ✈ (meaning preferring DMC1, 3, and 4 over DMC5) is the equivalent of this

It doesn’t have to be a fucking cultural movement you speds, if you think DMC5 is mechanically inferior to DMC4, stop playing it and if you do like it, keep playing it

On the one hand, I can understand the disappointment of the guard fly enthusiasts. I feel that same feel when I see people say shit like Mario World is the best 2d Mario, or Super Castlevania/Symphony of the Night is the best 2d Castlevania. I could sperg for hours on why both those opinions, are in my opinion, objectively wrong; I've played the better, deeper, less casualized games in those series to death and I know all the little tricks and blah blah blah.

Then on the other hand, despite being pretty fucking deep into Devil May Cry, I never got guard fly deep. I S ranked 90% of the stages in all the games after hundreds of hours of play, completed Bloody Palace runs and stuff, and I never got THAT deep. And when I looked up that stuff and I tried it myself, I said "Fuck this, too hard to do consistently, it's just messing up my gameplay, not worth it." So this to me is like not even the top percentile of players complaining the game is too casual now, it's like the .01%.

I can understand the the argument of longing for missing mechanics vs. being happy with game as is, but the fanbase itself is still seemingly comprised of autistic manbabies, just look at this guy https://itsmorecornflakes.blogspot.com/?m=1

I’ll give the two fatsos (Jim and Angry Joe) this, they did give DMC5 its fair share of respect after playing, finding out it’s good and discovering that red orb purchases are truly superfluous in all the current patches (which means that even if Capcom ever does get greedy with the in-game orb drops, you can just dial your game back to patch 1.00 and play it as Itsuno intended). That’s one point for the fatsos

P.S. Jim and Joe are still ubercucks

Lemme just add that the comment section of his DMC5 reddit post is pompous ass cancer. I get the hatred of MTXs (even if the orb drop rate itself is super balanced, with some even arguing that you’ll get even more via gameplay than with real money), but Jesus these guys are self-rightous, smug, pompous, fedora tipping dickheads. If the MTXs irk you, just don’t buy the game, don’t lecture me on how you not buying the game will save the west the game industry.

Even Jim the MTX hater himself saying the game has a balanced economy from patch 1.00 isn’t enough for them, it’s almost as if his fans don’t actually like video games and only watch his videos for the ResetEra outrage bait

Again, it’s not the fact that Jim’s fanbase hates MTXs that bothers me, anyone can understand that sentiment, it’s the fact that they clearly don’t care about whether or not they actually hurt the game in question, they just want a new topic to reeeee about on reeeeeeeeera and r/latestagecapitalism for anti-capitalist woke points

Huge necro, but I wanna discuss the Switch version of DMC3, because I believe it's the best version of the game period.

For those not in the know, DMC3 on Switch adds an optional Free Style mode, which enables Dante to freely switch between the different styles and has him keep his entire arsenal of weapons so you aren't restricted to two Devil Arms and two guns. As you'd expect, this really opens the game tremendously since you basically have access to all of Dante's moves instead of having to limit yourself to one style and a handful of weapons. I thought this would break the game since the game is kinda designed around the original's limitations, but it didn't. It still feels challenging even with the extra options during combat. I also like it because I hated getting blindsided by a boss that I felt would work better with Swordmaster but I came in using Trickster.

I think my favorite aspect of Free Style mode is how it handles weapon switching. When you switch weapons, you cycle to the next weapon as you'd expect, but you also bring up a small radial menu, which allows you to pick a different weapon on the fly with the right analog stick. It's brilliant since I always hated having to cycle through Dante's entire arsenal just to get to the one weapon I want. Even if you don't want to use the menu, you can still cycle through the weapons like you can in 4 and 5. The only real complaint I have is you can't customize the radial menu; it's ordered according to when Dante acquires them in the story, so if you don't like how it's set up there isn't anything you can do about it. But frankly I think the addition of a radial menu at all is a fantastic idea and one I want to see implemented in a future game. Hell, I'd like to see them add it to 4 and 5 in a future port.

DMC3 was already my favorite game in the series, and this edition made an amazing game even better.

Bigger Necro and unpopular opinion time

I played DMC first before any other game in the series and I didn't think it was that bad. Sure emo Dante was way too much of an Americanized edgelord version of the character and a parody of him at best and from what I've heard it was made way easier for mom fans to get used to the game but the lackluster story and trying to hard emo characters aside I didn't mind it that much.

Mind you I have played the other games including 5 recently and yeah they are better hell even with Dante getting older in 5 he was definitely more likable than emo Dante in DMC

DmC was also the first Devil May Cry I ever played. It's a strange introduction to the series because the mechanics are simplified from the original series and the plot and characters are as far removed from the source material as you can get. At the time, I didn't think it was that bad and I got a laugh out of the infamous white wig scene.

After that I got into the original series and I began to realize why the fans weren't so happy with it, especially when I got to 3 and noticed that OG Dante was far more charming and likable than Reboot Dante.

DmC's not a bad game overall; its combat mechanics are solid, and credit where it's due, the platforming is so much better than the original series. There are even some great ideas like how weapon switching is handled and the way you can seamlessly change weapons in the middle of a combo. It's just that when you compare it with the previous games in the series (which is inevitable since it shares the same name), it lacks the signature charm, polish, and depth that Devil May Cry is known for.

I'm just glad they're offering Vergil as DLC for those of us who want to wait before getting next-gen consoles. I am somewhat interested in those extra cutscenes, but if the previous games are any indication, they won't amount to much.

BASED

I was thinking about reinstalling and playing again soon but I'll hold off until he drops. I can't wait to be MOTIVATED again.

I was really looking forward to backwards compatibility on Xbox/PS5 so I could hopefully run DMC5 with faster load screens, but might just give Capcom my money and hope it straight up runs faster.

I keep seeing $40 getting thrown around for the price of SE so at least there is that for consoles

PC getting jipped for some reason.
no excuse to keep it away from the pc version. hope someone hacks it in.

as for Vergil, after reading up a bit more it seems he only uses yamato this time and no other weapons (no force edge, no bearwolf) and gets nothing new either which is just lazy.
than we have him summoning V that seems rather weird? i see no reason for Vergil to ever do something like that as a character now that his cured of his canceraids and has a powerful SDT he can use.

all of this seems rather lazy.

Eh, give it a few months I bet.

it's not a huge deal. PC already has turbo mode modded in, and modders just recently discovered what values control the number of enemies that spawn, so true LDK isn't far off either.

still weird they'd do this tho.

Because normies need to learn wtf ray-tracing is and whats a better game to do it then the one they played just last year
I'm abit surprised they arn't taking notes from what the PC community is doing and not just cribbing some of the modes they made
Majority of the shit that SE has exclusive aside from RT sounds cool, but not enough to buy one of two consoles that I'm mostly uninterested in during recession just to play a game I already bought twice. Like Haptic feedback for using Blue Rose, sounds cool more immersive and probably satisfying to pull shit off with, but it's not a system upgrade sort of feature. especially since I could just buy vergil standalone anyway, which props on capcom if this was them during the 360 days you know they would try to keep that shit next gen exclusive.
I still hope it does come to PC since stuff like raytracing can help DMC 5 age better visually as the years go on, but considering it still is one of the most impressive games when it comes to games that prioritize fps count (mostly due to how the RE engine is so great it was basically last gens version of MT framework) I don't think it needed much of a visual boost anyway

I could see them expanding on yamato alone to be interesting enough, it would be abit like what DmC tried to do with stances but it seems they might be using stuff like becoming DT V or doppelganger to try and change him up from 3SE and 4SE. all that shit plus concentration might be enough though I might just be abit optmistic.
