Small anecdote about DA from back in 2005-6. I used to work at a large design agency, and we had this guy who seemed a bit "odd" call us up every few days for a few weeks asking if he could bring his portfolio in for review.
We were intrigued, but not too concerned as some absolutely amazing artists and designers are a bit on the spectrum, if not most of them in my experience, so my boss scheduled ME to give him a half hour review.
Anyway this guy turned up, and I shit you not, had glasses about an inch thick and a fucking guide dog (he was "legally blind"). I asked him how he used his computer, and he said he used a magnifying glass and proceeded to demonstrate on my nice new cinema display by putting his face so close to my monitor he left a nose oil mark on it.
To the point, all his portfolio was was some really crazy shit, spelling mistakes, layouts that made no sense unless you were blind and really bad MS Paint "illustrations", mainly of Freddy Mercury for some reason all printed on a shitty home printer. He gave me a business card with the link to the stuff I'd witnessed on a site called Deviant Art, which none of us had even heard of until later in the day when we checked it out, and oh boy even then it was an eyeopener. It literally became a meme that anyone I would interview after that if they were shit I would just email my boss and say "legally blind, possible deviant".
We even used to joke that because I fobbed him off (We'll get in contact, etc)... while trying to be kind, and we never called him back he was gonna come back in and do a "Columbine"... All my boss said was don't worry, even if he does, it will be like Jurassic Park, don't move and he won't see us, he'll just try to shoot the fax machine if it makes a noise.
Wish I still had that business card. it was magnificent, but my boss wanted to keep it because she said it cracked her up to look at it if she was having a bad day.
Best job I ever had in terms of fun, (not pay though sadly) and I was even allowed to smoke at my desk, until that law came in in 2008 that stopped that, or at least meant our office was freezing and our air freshener budget went up 5000% until one of the owners came over from NY and made us clean that practice out pretty sharpish...
