I love the Deus Ex games especially the first, I started playing through the series again. I'd never played the Directors Cut version of Human Revolution and started with that one. Not as a great of a story as the red pilled filled Deus Ex 1, but great gameplay. I never beat Invisible War but I'm going to give it a go with mods. Anybody else here love Deus Ex, any other Immersive Sim games floating under the radar that I should look into?

My introduction to the series was playing the PS2 port of the first game when it released in 2002, I had never played anything like it before, I dug the sense of freedom and it's conspiracy laden story.

I then played Invisible War in 2003 when it released on the Xbox, then years later in 2010 I finally played the PC original of the first game and replayed Invisible War on PC as well.

I of course played Human Revolution but while I didn't dislike it I was not as impressed as I had hoped to be, you could tell it was a game made by no one who had made the original games, they tried their best but some things just felt off (like why is it a prequel but everything looks so much more futuristic than the first game? The original game's pretty low key approach to the future was one of the things that made it unique)

The bad buzz kept me away from Mankind Divided, maybe I'll get around to playing it eventually, but I'm not sure I care as a sincerely doubt there'll ever be a new one, mainstream media has turned on conspiracy theories and I don't think you're gonna see an AAA game about them again, highly ironic given stuff like Human Revolution's plot points about FEMA camps, mainstream media lies and the WHO being up to no good.

I've been kind of curious to replay the PS2 port as from what I understand it's fairly different than the PC version in parts and I'm curious, especially given it's been almost 20 years.

@NoReasonAtA11 play Thief 1 and 2, then 4 and three in this order: 3, 4, 2, 1
Played Thief 3 for the Xbox back in the day, didn't much care for it and didn't finish it.

I did play pretty far into Thief 2 and while I was enjoying it, it's one of those games that just keeps going and going and feels like it's never going to end, eventually I just got sick of it (I regret not finishing it though)

Have only played the original very, very briefly.

The order was just meant as a joke, I think 4 is the one least liked followed by 3. It's like putting Project Snowblind as the must play of the Deus Ex series.

Thief is definitely slow paced but the environments and ambience really lends itself to that. For those that haven't played it, it's not a game that forces you to be slow in a fast and busy environment, everything is sort of sleepy and gloomy. It makes Hitman look like a run and gun.

My recommendation would be to set aside enough time for each play session to finish a level from start to end. Saving in the middle of a level and coming back a day or two later could mean that you have forgotten the details of where you are and what you were doing and playing a senility simulator is no fun.

I have Human Revolution but it's an unplayable piece of shit on PC. It's a shame too, because I was having a ton of fun with it.

Deus Ex, the game widely considered to be one of the best games of all time, is floating under the radar for you? Really?

Anyway, immersive sims are usually pretty well known. System Shock, Bioshock, Thief, Dishonored, Prey(2018), Vampire TMB, etc.

I guess Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and EYE: Divine Cybermancy are less known. You could probably also count Cruelty Squad and My Summer Car.

How so, are you playing the original or directors cut? I know you cant get the original version anymore unless you already own it. Last time I played it was perfectly fine beginning to end.

I've played most of the well known ones like the system shock and prey series, but there are always pc games out there I've never heard of. With immersive sims not being particularly prevalent idk if perhaps there are some indie games or ones currently in development to look for.

Directors Cut. Evidently the original didn't have the issues but you can't find it anywhere. There is far too much stuttering.

It’s probably for the best that Eidos Montreal were relegated to being a support studio on that terrible Avengers game after Mankind Divided underperformed because the Deus Ex franchise was heading in the direction of being a micro transaction riddled live-service.

I've enjoyed both Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, I would've loved a remake of the first for the anniversary.

Did you guys know that Avengers came out during Deus Ex's 20th anniversary, and Eidos didn't bother to acknowledge the anniversary at all? It's bad enough to have MD's sequel canned in favor of that disaster, but to have it completely overshadow the anniversary sure felt like salt in the wound.

I read that, Eidos Montreal was forced to work the Avengers mines instead of going forward with Deus Ex 5. What a shame, what a rotten way to die.
