Dialogue is bananas but I am kinda used to it from the Metal Gear games. Game play, well going to need more time on that but it’s definitely interesting.

Man people forgave David Cage for his Gay Robot Slavery Sim Movie but Death Stranding is really bringing out the fangs.

We need to see some sales numbers to see if it's a bomb, because right now it's just divided and controversial.

I would say at most this may just be a humbling moment for Kojima. People are saying that this game has destroyed Sony's first party credibility like Fallout 76 Destroyed Bethesda's and that all future Sony games will be tainted with this failure, but that's very extreme.

Then again Kojima said the game would make people divided and controversial, so he probably knew.
Think Kojima is just one of those "love or hate" kind of people. Most think he's either a creative genius or a pretentious asshole. As a big fan of MGS i'd say the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The thing that sort of baffles me is Kojima was never a guy who made games with mass market appeal. His "niche" had a wider net then other games classified as such, but they were never Cod or Mario, so it didn't catch me off guard he made a weird game that won't appeal to everyone.

This is true and reflected in Metacritic user reviews, opinion is split. Either you love it or hate it, rarely is it "ok".

Should be able to have time to play it tonight or tomorrow, lets hope I'm in the "love it" category.

Anyway, according to some of my friends, they said that its going to be trekking in open fields for a long time. which for me is a shame. This is again another case of the gameplay is not compatible with the setting and story. The package autism is really really good, but you can't get behind the gameplay because the setting and story is complete bonkers.

If they could simply just make the story more grounded, like lets say, a post apocalyptic world stricken by zombies, and zombies roam the land, and the people are stuck living in high ground, and you deliver goods and stuff for survivors, where you have to travel with you packages walking on some very hard to scale land and high ground, taking care of the package not making them fall to the ground where zombies are around. I think that would make Death Stranding more palatable.

Just imagine this game, but with package autism

Yeah, make something ultra generic that has been done 50 times only in the last 3 years.

name a game with a main gameplay mechanic about delivering things. and dont say TLOU, because its all about smashing zombies. the last game i played about delivering things was an abandoned jap indie game about delivering ramen, which was I think 6 or 7 years ago

Literally every MMO and RPG made over the last two decades has fuck tons of fetch quests. I have absolutely no idea where you got this idea that delivering shit is some exciting new innovative gameplay mechanic, it's old as shit.

In like 99% of MMO fetch quests the point of the design is to get you from quest hub A to quest hub B to pick up more quests. It's not a game play mechanic in MMO, it's a bread crumb trail to keep the player from getting lost between quest hubs. From the sounds of it this game has built moving from point A to point B with the McGuffin into an actual gameplay mechanic.

Although I would agree that Archeage at least does have fetch quests that have actual gameplay mechanics. A lot of gold endgame is made though running trade packs, which are tied into all sorts of systems to encourage PVP, same-faction griefing, crafting, and use of crafted consumables. But saying for example WoW has a main gameplay mechanic based around deliveries is a big fucking joke.

Truck Simulator and Elite Dangerous. I'm not the biggest fan of large portions of those games either.

If that is true, well, fuck me sideways

I will still say that it should have been more Raw Danger game since there are similar systems like the backpack/weight is similar to the packages.

People forgave David Cage because he's an idiot. You can only expect so much from one.

Then again Kojima said the game would make people divided and controversial, so he probably knew.
Which is humorous because in an interview he said the game was about building bridges so people wouldn't be so divided. Well, like he said in that interview, "a collapsed bridge becomes a wall"... so I guess this bridge collapsed.

Either way I had no interest in Death Stranding because I had Kojima pegged as a wannabe movie director like Cage - who, unlike Cage, at one point actually made games - and with every announcement of Hollywood celebrities for Death Stranding it just confirmed my suspicions. The thing is, I figured it'd be something more than just delivering packages. That shit works in movies because it's only 2 hours long to slog through, this shit makes it 20 hours and tries to tell you the world depends on it. I also question his understanding of American politics where the bad guy says the daughter will now replace the American president who just died, the daughter of the American president would replace her... the president. Something out of Futurama with that one.

You can insult PCs all you want, but the absolute worst criticism you could try to make is the lack of games lmao.
