But wasn't that because of EA pressuring the devs to make a more action oriented game to compete with the big shooters?
EA wanted the series to go from Alien to Aliens. Where you are now in a corridor shooter and not some isolated horror game. They also wanted a little bit more of an upbeat story and ending. Whereas the first writers were setting up for the Brethren Moons to consume Earth. And that Isaac's ending would basically be him witnessing Earth becoming a Brethren Moon or infected and having nowhere to go in a now completely 'dead' space. And that the Necromorphs were unstoppable the entire time.

One of the rumored endings was that Isaac Clarke would go insane from the Marker, and hallucinate himself saving Earth, but in reality he was actually crashing the Brethren Moon right into the planet. And that your last level in the game would be from his perspective after he's completely lost his mind. And the final moments would be him imagining himself as this heroin savior when in reality everyone is dead. Kind of like how fans wanted that Indoctrination storyline from Mass Effect that never materialized.

But EA had another team of writers who basically rebooted the series at Dead Space 3 (and some argue at Dead Space 2). And they wanted to remove Isaac from being the lead and introduce a new female protagonist (like Gordon to Alyx in Half Life). This female protagonist Ellie would be the playable character in an open world game of Dead Space 4. Where you are in a ship graveyard floating in space and must build yourself a working planet cracker to destroy the Brethren Moons threatening Earth. And the ending would also have her discovering everything about the Necromorphs, Markers, and Brethren Moons including their origins and purposes. They supposedly had a team of writers to answer all of those mysteries to the player.

It had to be her and not Isaac though?

Fucking Current Year shit needs to die already.

Yes. Isaac was supposed to be the protagonist for Dead Space 4 but EA and the new writers rejected it. The team then threw together what they had for the last Dead Space 3 DLC which was Awakened. Which had a story closer to the original writing team's ideas of Isaac leading the Moons to Earth and killing humanity. They left the ending ambiguous as to whether or not it was all a hallucination. So that if another team made Dead Space 4 they could retcon pretty much anything that they wanted.

But the 'canon' ending is that Earth is now 'dead space'. The chapters of the final Dead Space DLC spell out "R.I.P." as well. An underrated series for sure. But EA and the new writing team that replaced the original team basically ruined the actual vision of the creative team that made the first one.

Yeah, but Dead Space 4 sounded awesome, with the protag kludging together a planet cracker out of wrecks to save mankind. Just needs to be Isaac and not Ellie.

This is probably the most we'll be getting related to the series in the near future :(

Still finding new stuff in an old game, in the area where you first encounter the kid necromorphs in DS2 there is a toy shop with a couple toy boxes on display, I decided to throw them around for fun only to be surprised with credits underneath them.

Pic of toy shop, credits already taken and toy boxes defiled.

I’m so glad those Motive faggots won’t get their claws on DS2, you just know they’d make Ellie more competent (she’s already more than a match for our based schizo) at Isaac’s expense while hitting her with the ugly stick all while doing a Gears of War 5 with “Nicole” and continuing the character assassinations.

DS2 has the 2000s thing where everyone looks great (as it should be in my 70+ dollar escapism) but everyone was well-written so it’s okay. Isaac resigning himself to the destruction of Titan Station and getting saved last-minute is still one of my favorite gaming endings, “No downer shit again, get flying Iron Man, that ethically-ambiguous chick came back, go get your second chance player.” So 2000s, so unapologetically high T, Isaac in 2 is the badass that Id likes to pretend nuDoomguy is.

DS3 took it too far but DS2’s increased attention from EA did result in the same thing that happened to ME2 (for the better) they injected Spike TV into it and it yielded two of best sci-fi sequels ever made, both right up there with Empire Strikes Back in being continuations of a slower and more careful predecessor that set up a world and now that you’re introduced, it’s time for adrenaline, more darkness, grit and tits.

Ellie's design for Dead Space 3 was kino

She would never look like that under Laura Miele's regime. She would probably tell EA Motive to cover every bit of skin and reduce her budget.
Reduce her budget, make her ugly, to accommodate Isaac looking like Adam Sandler. The only way I’d accept that is Kevin James Nolan and Rob Schneider Norton.

Dead Space really took over the RE mantle of every chick being high budget, even the ones from the animated movies.
