A new Constantine series is reportedly on the horizon for HBO Max, and the program could see a BIPOC performer take on the role of the Hellblazer

According to The Illumnerdi, HBO Max is partnering up with the J.J. Abrams studio Bad Robot Productions on a Constantine TV show. This incarnation of the character will have a dark tone with a heavy emphasis on horror rather than religious elements. Notably, the show is currently looking to secure a BIPOC performer in the mold of Riz Ahmed to take on the part of John Constantine.


Abrams is currently working on an HBO Max series based on Justice League Dark, a team that frequently employs Constantine among its ranks. However, it's unclear if this new Constantine show would be connected to that production.

John Constantine has been a staple of the DC Universe for decades, while his most prolific live-action incarnation came with a 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves. The project took liberties with the source material but proved a decent box office hit with a $230.88 million worldwide gross and has garnered a cult following in the years since its release.

Constantine also previously headlined a series on NBC. Though it only lasted 13 episodes, Matt Ryan, the actor tasked with playing this version of Constantine, has gone on to reprise the role as a series regular on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

This "BIPOC" bullshit just seems like an evolution of their tactics to make it "everyone vs white people". What a bunch of exclusionary racist bigots.
 
Keanu Reeves is what made the film a success.

The TV show was a flop and I can't see how this is going to be any better.

For the record I'd like another Keanu Reeves Constantine film.

BIPOC doesn't even add any meaning. "People of color", as reprehensible and divisive a term as it is, at least has a meaning. It means "not white". BIPOC, then, means "not white, and also two other kinds of not white". It's like saying "canine dog". I really don't even know what the point is. Is it just a manifestation of the progressive movement's hatred of anything more than ten years old*? "POC" is too old and therefore racist, so let's create a new term that means the exact same thing?

*I originally wrote that without intending it to work as a pedophile joke, but that's what we call a happy little accident

constantine is supposed to be Sting (edit for brain fart saying bowie lol)

The show was a flop but the guy they got to play John was fantastic. Absolutely nailed it.
 
Come the fuck on DC, it's like you're trying to put yourself out of business. Like @CatParty said, John Constantine is supposed to be white as part of his literal fucking character design.
 
casting a bipoc for a character whose almost entire identity is about being a smoking whitey brit amazing.

Hopefully they dont have him shooting out fireballs or using guns like the keanu reeves movies. Constantine (from the hellblazer comics) and his uses of magic was always of the more subtle kind. Usually the the heavy lifting magic wise was through friends and acquaintance of his (and it usually never ends well for them).
 
If they could just do something like make a woke gay casting choice and say "there. you've got your virtue signal. now we can make a good show about a good character that people want to watch," I would be fine with that. But it's HBO, so they have to pile woke on woke until it's a giant pile of AIDS.
 
How lucky for the entertainment biz that they can now recycle everything by just making them BIPOC characters. Lazy assholes. I'm fine with putting BIPOC people in the lead roles, just give me new content. Quit remaking everything because you've run out of new ideas.

It's the opposite. BIPOC came about literally because a) the activist community is insanely racist against Asians (whether it be the dot or yellow variety), mostly because b) they constantly disprove the idea it's all whitey's fault. Black and Indigenous People of Color gatekeeps Pajeets or Pings from counting towards their oppression index.
It's an evolution of their tactics to push blacks and other ghetto poors vs. anyone with a functional, upwardly mobile culture.
