Tornadoes do really weird shit - people get sucked up into powerful tornadoes and deposited miles away (& alive/with minor injuries!) all the fucking time. For example, the Lake Thunderbird tornado (EF-4) from about a decade ago hit a grocery store head on, annihilated it, but a few random aisles (including ones with glass pickle jars!) were fine & left standing. Same tornado proceeded to cross a road, hit a truck, deposited driver into a field uninjured, their truck meanwhile was destroyed/rolled into a twisted metal ball.

TLDR, if Clark saved his dad, no one would have blinked twice. & Pa Kent, being a lifelong resident of Kansas - smack dab in Tornado Alley, would have known this as well.

Heck, when I first saw Man of Steel, I actually thought Pa Kent committed suicide by tornado.

I have family up in Kansas, one of which lost their home in a tornado and I cannot fathom any of them being retarded enough to do that shit. I honestly had the same reading when I saw it the first time. Also this is like the one instance where Clark could get away with flying in front of others because it's a fucking tornado

Definitely not Kansas, but maybe Missouri or some other southern state? Also I will say that accents can change. I have an aunt from Kansas who moved around a lot and she's lost her Kansas accent.

Man of Steel was like Jurassic Park for superheroes. It showed what it might really feel like to see something like a kryptonian in real life for the first time, and so far, almost for the last time. Almost everything else still looks like guys dangling from wires in front of a green screen. As for how it's aging, well, I think Superman '25 is already making it look better.

 
Saw a Peacemaker ad and I completely forgot that the real protagonist of the show was a fat black dyke. I'm suddenly dreading season 2 because you know she's gonna come back in and coon shit up again.
 
Had a really long post but it deleted itself so I'll just say it was a weak 6.5/10. A great example of a movie thats greater than the sum of it's parts.

The humor was not great, it's like they started with a more serious movie then pivoted to a G rated kids movie after already filming the edgiest stuff but then still left it in (The Indian dude dying, Superman and Lois argument, Metamorpho torturing Superman ect), the Jimmy subplot is proof that the reviews are bought because it, Jimmy and Lexs ex were all awful, Luthor was a whiny idiot loser whos master plan was to get Superman to swallow some nanites, Lois started off as an interesting bitch and then lost all her personality, Superman's parents talked like they were retarded and the final speech Superman gave was very dumb and childish. Krypto was terrifying imo and his jokes while funny felt like they belonged to a different movie (Superman was afraid he was going to slaughter the cows on the farm). I liked the Justice Gang tho, Superheroes just doing cool shit should be the norm.

As a response to Snyder this movie basically had no stakes, Metropolis is ripped in half but it's fine because...the entire city evacuated? The Justice Gang brutally kills a monster but it's fine because Superman said "aw shucks guys you shouldn't have drilled it's eyes out 😃." Superman kills Ultraman and Hawkgirl kills Netanyahu and no one cares. Superman learning that his parents sent him to colonize Earth is basically just brushed off, same thing with the torture, and Luthor shooting the Indian guy.

@Fluoxetine Man those two you posted might be brain damaged. Metropolis literally got ripped in two.

I think that was the El Reno/Piedmont EF5. It did a lot of weird shit, like tore the roof & all the walls off someone's house but left their dining room table undisturbed with the dinner plates set (I think the tornado happened around 4:30/5 pm?)

This. A person flying in the air during a powerful tornado is arguably the only time no one would blink twice witnessing such a thing.

Also, tornado survivors report weird shit saving them all the time - the Joplin EF-5 tornado straight up had people reporting Mothmen/Mantis aliens/giant Butterfly creatures shielding them from the tornado. (Note: Joplin tornado also kicked up a lot of potent toxic fungus in the air that caused people to hallucinate/killed many survivors months later due to severe fungal lung infections. But personally, I like to believe in the kind protective aliens...)

I thought it sounded Appalachian, like bumfuck Kentucky/the far boonies of Pennsylvania. It definitely wasn't Southern, nor was it rural Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas drawl.

And somehow the only way to shut it off is for Superman to do a mid-air raid on Luthor’s hover-pod and force him to cough up a passcode? Which....but didn’t the thing explode ten scenes ago? Like the collider-portal-device or whatever just fully collapsed in on itself, but apparently Terrific can still bluetooth the kill command.

What exactly is he sending a signal to? I dunno.

But, I’m not gonna sit here and relitigate Man of Steel. Remember the Snyder Cut teased the Injustice storyline, where Superman turns fascist because Lois got charbroiled. And that’s what the Flash was babbling about when he warned Bruce, who by the way was somehow right about everything again.

Batman vs. Superman teased the Injustice storyline, with the weird flashforward scenes/hallucinations Bruce was having.

Although I will never grasp why. Injustice had a mediocre plot - it only did well due to solid gameplay mechanics & the novelty of an "evil Justice League" aesthetic. Of all the DC storylines for the DCEU to build up to/be the DCEU's Thanos, Injustice certainly wasn't the one to pick.

Injustice generated a ton of positive buzz among casual fans when it first came out, something that couldn't be said for any non-Batman DC thing since the tail end of the DCAU.
 
Finally saw Superman today. Don't have much to add that hasn't already been said besides I stand by my theory people want the movie to be better than it actually is. It was fine, although if you don't like or are tired of Gunn's schtick you'll hate it. But it was perfectly decent capeshit to me, especially compared to Marvel lately. More interested in seeing how the DCU goes from here, Gunn has some weird ideas. I know he wants to do Batman but I really don't think he'll do it right. Matt Reeves' Batman isn't perfect but I think he does a better job than Gunn would.

Honestly, could have had something far more plausible with Pa Kent having a heart attack or an automobile accident. Clark could have the chance to save him by carrying him to the nearest hospital or bending steel wreckage out of the way. You could think of plenty of things that would be complicated by witnesses. The real issue of course is that Clark shouldn't let someone die to preserve his secret but if you're going to, there are better ways to do it.

Clark is proved right later in the film also, when one of the kids he saved from the bus as a child is pretty heavily hinted to know who he is but keeps his secret.

This scene, to me, is way more moving. He just collapses and that's the end, Clark can travel faster than the speed of light yet he can't do anything for his dad. It serves as big lesson that he can't save everyone, even having god-like power isn't enough. Having him die to something that Superman can easily rescue him from, doesn't carry that emotional weight when you put yourself in Superman's shoes.

They sounded very Appalachian to me (source, grew up in the region). If you told me the Kents were from eastern Tennessee instead of Kansas I'd believe it.

You could partially excuse the accent and say Clark was influenced by his fellow school kids and friends and teachers when he was growing up, but I still think he'd have a little of Kent accent. The producers probably didn't put that much thought into it. In their mind a farmer from Kansas is exactly the same as a man living in the foothills of West Virginia.

He clutches his left arm as well, clearly feeling the numbness there. Sign of a heart-attack right. His death is quite sudden but that's the right choice for a movie of the time. You're right - that's the best Pa Kent death ever done.
 
Anyway damn we had it good with Bruce Timm's animated series. Justice League was brilliant. Cast was brilliant. Glory days.......

because when Injustice came out the entire internet was going "this is what the justice league movie should be" i know, because i remember and was constantly getting ratioed for being like "no it shouldn't" then BvS set it up, and at least it was obviously the anti life equation so I was like okay I can take them doing some sort of final crisis/Injustice mashup and the whole internet in those few years had done a 180 and went theyre doing an Injustice thing? Noooooo!

which, I get people not wanting that, again I didnt at the time really either but it was seriously everywhere people saying Injustice should be the JL movie. I think it was just because it was the first major JL thing since the show, the animated movies were and are big but were still more niche at that point. And wbs reactionary ass probably saw the Injustice hype and suggested it when they were in the planning stages.

Tom Taylor is a little freak, and WB-DC is like if a corporation got hit in the head with a frying pan.

Injustice happened because someone needed a lore excuse for why Harley can beat up the Flash in Mortal Kombat. Just pure dudebro bait that reshaped public perception of the characters more than anything since Superfriends.

From Diana commiting gendercide, Batman being the only guy doing anything about it, Damian murdering Dick, and Superman and Darkseid being treated like ideological equals.

It def has fans, it ran for way longer than any tie-in comic deserves to. Suck around like a roach infestation. You shouldn't be seeing Year Five on a book whose origin is "What if you punched the Joker so hard he died."
