David Copperfield enjoyed a relationship with now convicted sex traffickers Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein for decades

Among the millions of documents in the Justice Department’s drop of the Epstein files was a slew of FBI memos that mention magician David Copperfield. In one, agents discussed whether Copperfield and his longtime friend Jeffrey Epstein “engaged in referring possible victims to each other” and whether they “shared a predilection for minors.”
That memo was written in 2007, a year before the billionaire financier cut a sweetheart deal with Florida law enforcement on charges he had sex with underage females. But Copperfield’s name appears extensively in the Epstein files, referenced multiple times in FBI files until Epstein died in 2019 at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
The magician was also referenced in a civil suit filed against Epstein by his victims. Johanna Sjoberg, a high-profile Epstein victim, testified that Copperfield once asked her at a dinner party if she knew “girls were getting paid to find other girls,” which she believed was an apparent reference to Epstein’s recruitment methods.
Copperfield, 69, has never been charged with illegal conduct and has denied any wrongdoing. But on Thursday, he announced that his 25-year residency on the Vegas strip in Sin City was coming to an end next month.
Copperfield is the latest Epstein associate to face fallout for his affiliation with the convicted pedophile. Last month, former Commerce Secretary Larry Summers announced he was resigning from his tenured position at Harvard University. Current Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik is also facing scrutiny for his friendship with Epstein and visits to his private island, a photo of which is contained in the Epstein files.
In recent weeks, Middle Eastern tycoon Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem was pushed out of his position as a ports boss in Dubai after an email emerged that showed Epstein writing to the billionaire: “I loved the torture video.” Former Obama administration White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler stepped down from her powerful post at Goldman Sachs after her relationship with Epstein, whom she called “Uncle Jeffrey,” was brought to light with the Justice Department’s document dump.
Ruemmler emailed Epstein on his 62nd birthday in 2015 – after his pedophile conviction – writing: “I hope you enjoy the day with your one true love :-)” to which he replied, “they say that men usually gvie [sic] a name to their penis, as would be inappropriate to make love to a total stranger.”
In 2017, an Epstein email told her he would organize a “fun time” for her during a planned trip to Dubai. When he was arrested on federal trafficking charges in 2019, Ruemmler was present for his initial appearance in Manhattan’s Southern District. She was also briefly listed as the executor of his will, but her name was removed before his death at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, which came weeks after his arrest.
