That's one of those things where if just about anyone else had said it, I probably wouldn't have thought too much of it. But because it's Phil, it's likely a little jab to try to discredit Justin a bit. This, from a guy that I'm certain gets his feelings hurt any time someone discredits his top 8 finish at Evo that year because it was played on a janky console port that no one liked.
A fairly high percentage of people tend to play top tiers at tournaments, depending upon the game. IIRC Phil mained Balrog and Vega in Super Turbo, which are both top 5 characters. And they also have fewer bad matchups than Old Sagat.
I don't know which character Phil used to beat Justin, but neither of those characters is at an disadvantage against O. Sagat. Those matchups would be fairly even, perhaps even slightly in favor of Vega in a Vega/O.Sagat matchup.
So if Phil is trying to act as if this was some sort of David vs. Goliath matchup (in terms of the characters), he'd full of shit.

The thing is he's actually right, Justin is pretty known for always picking the lamest characters, but like you said it's obvious that he just brought it up because he's still butthurt. And Phil "wow, all I have to do is spam the leg sweep and I win" Burnell has not much room to talk anyway.
 
He's been telling that same old ''I'm an independent content creator'' story for years now and it makes up at least 15 minutes of his pre-stream. It's a big part of the narrative he tries to spin for why he 's begging for money every day. Plus it's 15 minutes of time wasted on his stream that he doesn't have to spend playing videogames.

If he were to take this offer he wouldn't be able to tell this story anymore. It wouldn't be worth it for him.

For sure. Remember when he moved from Twitch to Youtube and started tweeting at the TeamYouTube twitter account which is a bot? He thought that whichever representative was running the account was seriously listening to his suggestions and even ended his conversation with it with "Please follow my account for further suggestions." I rarely feel second-hand embarrassment, but that was one of the times that I did, it's like walking in on your grandpa yelling at a pre-recorded phone call because he thinks he's talking to an actual human on the other end.

It's honestly hilarious how as time goes on Phil picks up more and more Chris Chan habits. like how he addresses companies like twitch through his streams and videos, actually believing that the companies are watching and listening.

I think that’s just venting, and if he had any inkling that those companies and organizations were paying attention he would immediately shut up.

Seeing how even they're aware of and laughing at how much of a joke DSP is, it's all the more possible that Phil is just pulling this "Yeah they totally offered me a sponsorship and I declined because I'm a real-ass OG" out of his ass for clout. Partly because he's subconsciously aware he's such a nobody that no one would associated with RSL would take the time to disprove him, just like all those times he's been ignored by other people in the business.

I miss the simpler times when Phil would just shill his girlfriend's custom homemade soap to gamers on Twitch. I wonder which soap he uses nowadays, since he claimed Panda's was 'real soap' that you couldn't find in any stores.
 
DSP shitting on Justin Wong using Old Sagat is hilarious because the only reason why he beat him is because he used Akuma, a character that has been historically banned from all tournaments due to how OP he is. Though let's be real, DSP could fight Justin Wong and have a perfect loss despite using Akuma and Justin Wong using T. Hawk, the worst fucking character in the game.

Im curious, to any dsp-lore scribes, since he lives in a gated community, does he participate/shows up in community meetings or actively partakes in them?

Obviously hes a hermit so he wont go out and talk with other humans

Man I watched a couple snort videos since I was behind…and I just have nothing to say, it legit sounds like the ramblings of a mental patient. All these “donated” things make him feel like a professional for the first time in forever. He’s so damn weird man lol

I don't want to get too deep in DSP lore than I already have , but I'm pretty confident in saying he's very much a hermit in his own community.

This is a guy who panics when landscaping shows up. He talks to one neighbor via email. He get suspicious when he hears someone at the door despite knowing it's likely Kat.

I'm not even going to put that completely on Phil.

The parents Burnell messed him up something fierce. I'd bet anything they took Phil in the moment they seen him rocking, got an autism diagnosis and just sheltered the hell out of him.

What parent doesn't teach their kid to ride a bike? Fuck sakes that the start of giving a child some semblance of independence. Not to mention mother Burnell's umbilical cord is so connected to him he fucked off to his farce of a wedding at her bequest.

He doesn't, at all. He is a total hermit. I know of one instance where his community members went out of their way to avoid him.
