Do you have any examples where mean words, not threats or requests to fight "swing at me etc" and only mean words were considered a provocation to violence by the court? How is "provoke" being defined here?
Its difficult to give a clear, generalized answer or case happens to incorporate all the elements we want because we're dealing with a couple of different topics can play into a given case, but not necessarily. On top of that, consider the added complexity that "fighting words" and what is considered unprotected or protected speech is a matter of constitutional law but self-defense falls into state criminal law and cases are decided by state judges. The constitutionality of speech as it pertains to specific cases.... well you're going to get some mixed results depending on your state's laws/judge's politics/if he's eaten lunch yet.

This is a case of "I want to hire the best qualified candidate" vs "I want to hire my own people" meme. Whites disadvantage themselves by not engaging in tribalism because non-whites always will. At around 0:40 he goes "We got 18 rounds for you" as he walks towards them, filming himself.
Dalton initiates the encounter by accusing three black guys on their own way of trying to "sneak up on him" as he hurls racial abuse at them.
One guy turns around and starts pointing and likely yelling "Fuck You", then he leaves with the rest of his party.
Notice how these guys never break the pace or change direction. Notice how Dalton DOES change his direction to actively pursue them.
Notice how Dalton repeated asks them to "come over here" and "chimp out". Notice how Dalton makes sure to hang around in the area for as long as possible to try and escalate the encounter.
