This 420 Awards debacle has revealed something to me about Daddy Derek: part of what makes him so appealing is how wholesome he tries (but fails) to be to the world. That's one of his character types.

His other character type is that he's a [comically low quality] entrepreneur of the throw-shit-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks variety. We've seen this from how heavily he leaned into his COOL CAT CINEMATIC UNIVERSE years.

Since he's had trouble making Cool Cat stick with audiences as anything other than a laughing stock, he's spent the last year or two trying out the pander-to-a-niche-audience model of business. We saw this with his GUN SAFETY SELF DEFENCE FOR WOMEN (AND MEN TOO IF MEN WILL BUY THIS DVD) "documentary", followed by his COOL CAT LOVES ALTERNATIVE ENERGY book, his COOL CAT LOVES THE MMA book, and now, this 420 AWARDS business.

Daddy Derek is a brilliant lolcow because he is frequently rebranding himself, like some kind of struggling pizza restaurant in a bad location, that will be an Indian Food restaurant the next time you see it, and a Vape Store the next time you see it after that. I doubt the 420 awards will actually happen, but regardless, I'm super excited for whatever the next failed business push Daddy Derek will take.

I would donate money to this 420 Awards if the host was Cool Cat with lowered eyelids and reddened eyes.

"This next award is for something really exquisite, maaaaannn...."

So uuuh... I think Daddy Derek has been pretty manic these past few videos, but this one kind of tops them all.

Personally, I think a ticket should cost $69. Which celebrities would show up? Will Eric Estrada be there? I don't think Vivica A Fox will be, since she has a show now. Is this going to be like tumblrcon? Will there be a ball pit?
He just wants to teach all the kids about goin' grink.

My dick is rock fucking hard for this shit. I honestly don't believe that you can get through a live streamed marijuana themed awards show without fucking up at least once.

He's had this weird obsession with weed for quite a long time (which explains a lot). He's been squatting on some URLs like "medicalmarijuana.com" or something for years and tried selling them on eBay a little while back.

Another thing that's fascinating is his lack of self awareness or understanding of what's appropriate. He uploads this advertisement for a weed-themed awards show to the Cool Cat channel and has both Cool Cat stuff and ads for novels like "The Dancer: A Male Stripper Story" on the same website.

That or he had some green fabric from his" movies" lying around and thought it would be fitting because DUDE WEED LMAO.
I think that's just his video recording room and he didn't feel it was necessary to key out the background on this specific video, which was a big mistake.

One thing I don't understand about Cool Cat...

Why hasn't AOL Time Warner sued Derek yet? I mean in the 60s, one of the last Looney Tunes characters created was named Cool Cat. I mean, yeah, he sucked, and felt like a lame attempt to recreate Bugs Bunny in the 60s, but he still exists and I assume Warner owns the trademark on the character, right?

Or did this ever come up before and did Derek find a way to get around it?

AOL Time Warner
AOL hasn't owned Time Warner in a long time, and AOL is owned by Verizon, who also owns Yahoo. AOL/Yahoo has been bundled together into a mutant called Oath. Oath owns Tumblr, who recently had all that trouble with child pornography. There were also huge issues with data breaches around the time of the Yahoo purchase.

I think AOL/Oath/Verizon has more to worry about than a nutball in Vegas making kid movies with his furry pal.

Cool Cat hasn't been used since The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries in the 90s, and they were only using him as a cameo there. Nobody wants to revive him properly, so why not let Daddy Derek have the name?

They're not really the same character and any trademark on the original character's name would have expired from non-use.
