A bit late, but there was a case where scientists overdosed an elephant on lsd and it went on a rampage before dying. The overdose was caused by thinking that metabolism was a linear relationship to body size. What's sad is that people already found out that metabolism is an allometric relationship. There was no reason for them to do that.
Speaking of heinous things done to elephants
Mary (c. 1894–September 13, 1916), also known as "Murderous Mary",[1] was a five-ton Asian elephant[2] who performed in the Sparks World Famous Shows circus. After killing a keeper on his second day at work, in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1916, she was hanged in nearby Erwin.
Electrocuting an Elephant (also known as Electrocution of an Elephant) is a 1903 American, short, black-and-white, silent documentary film of the killing of the elephant Topsy by electrocution at a Coney Island amusement park. It was produced by the Edison film company (part of the Edison Manufacturing Company) and is believed to have been shot by Edwin S. Porter or Jacob Blair Smith.[1]
