If you go down in age and look at young women in higher paying jobs you'll see that they often make more than men of the same age. You will also see that these women, just starting a job, might earn more than a woman that have worked at that company for 30-40 years - maybe they started in another position and worked their way up and got the normal, gradual raise in pay from her entry salary over all those years.

The older women that is dragging the overall statistics down, it's not just maternity leave and all that, will start retiring soon. As they fall out of job statistics by no longer working the pay gap will close on its own. In 10-15 years men might actually end up making 93 cents on the dollar and we will see a lot of handwaving about how that's not true or relevant because income based pensions will suddenly be included and Jeff Bezos is still the richest man in the world and, and, and...
