I replaced my hard drive this year. I dont really understand computers, but a friend had told me that my computer problems were because my hard drive was failing.
It turns out my hard drive was a faulty model that had an expected life of 2 years.
I had been using it for 10 years.
There's a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) that's a standard rating on hard drives. Anything beyond that estimate (in hours) is a blessing, usually these are in the thousands or tens of thousands of hours.

Wait, how long are hard drives supposed to last?
I'm guessing you'd expect them to last at least as long as the warranty. I have some old 40GB Western Digital drives with over 7 years on them and no bad sectors.

My old hard drive was, by all rights, a fucking zombie. The fact that it made it 10 years is absurd, I am told.

it's only effective on older HDD's and for like, 30mins at best then back to the freezer it is. RIP my 120GB samsung, at least i managed to take my important files out of you by freezing.

5 years minimum, unless they are fucking seagate, their doomclock ticks at 2 years always for the recent lineup, there was even a HDD fail listing recently and seagate pass it with flying colors, the cunts. sadly HGST ain't for sale.
I've had a hard drive last over 20 years of continuous use. It seems 10 is on the outer edge of typical lifespan though, although I currently have two drives older than that without even a bit of trouble. And one of them is a Western Digital and the other a Seagate. Whatever.

The click of death is generally something I associate with Zip drives. I miss those things but they were pretty fucking unreliable. Jaz were even cooler but even more unreliable.

Now I feel old. I remember when Sabrina wasn't an anime girl.

it wasn't permanat just something that only lasted a couple years before they went back to the classic style...well untill Riverdale came along that is (:_(

well ok to be fair Archie digests and a couple books are still published in the classic style but they aren't published as often as they realistic or dark material that's basically riverdale and chilling adventures in comic form.

I'll stop since we already have a thread for comic sperging.
