This is just conjecture but I feel like the "porn apocalypse" mostly affected niche fetish communities, who are also prone to talking about porn online, where as vast majority of the site's users will just whack it to anything the site recommends and didn't even notice.

I used to see the show everywhere. Advertised on TV, bus stops, recommended as popular on streaming services, Twitter lefties claiming everybody loves it, etc.

But I've yet to find anyone who has watched it, let alone likes it. It seems to be something that is said to be popular, because companies say it's popular, or the audience that watches it is far away from me or at least people I don't encounter day-to-day.

There's a chance that it's popular within the US Prison system population. I mean you have a literal captive audience of millions.

I mean it's also well known that Airport terminals are used to bulk up TV numbers.
 
always felt that's more due to the type and interval of nintendo games. if you don't care about bing bing wahoo there aren't usually that many options, hence the constant port begging. on playstation that's probably even worse but it got more high-profile multiplats in return.
Japanese high-profile multiplats aren't doing so hot on PS anyway and a lot of japanese third-parties have been quite in disarray by the current situation after two full decades of using Playstation as their default home. Another example I've noticed from this disarray is Earth Defense Force 6, which still has yet to announce which platforms it will be released on (even a year later after the game project reveal), while EDF5 and EDF4.1 were initially announced on PS4 from the start and without a definite date back then.

There's a 5chan thread with the japanese reacting to the 60/60 Switch domination within 2 weeks in a row (which is again entirely unprecedented for a game console), if anyone feel curious

And just now, SIE is claiming to invest in external japanese development and how the company is still very japanese in spirit, but it's just another PR speech and big damage control (remember when Jim Ryan claimed the company does care about the country of the rising sun only to have Japan Studio be entirely disbanded shortly after? ). It's funny to see that nobody is buying the sweet little lies of SIE anymore in the Disqus comment section, except the die-hard fanatics which I suspect our local sony fanboy to do the same too as they would rather gouge their own eyes out rather than facing reality.

They're not bullshitting about the Japanese investment, they're merging games and anime together because people found there's an extra tier of PS+ happening where you get anime series and games monthly. At this point they're so involved with the whole industry they make money on anime just by sleeping.

Also Jim Ryan isn't the one in charge, he's being told what his superiors are telling him to say. The Main HQ of Sony itself is the one dictating everything. Everything has been all Yoshida ever since he came into power in 2018 and restructured the company.

As it states he got the position because he would routinely fire entire divisions and be very harsh with cost cutting. So it's why Japan studio closed and it's why the PS3 and Vita store almost closed. He's pulling all the branches together to do shit, what you also forgot to mention was that their partnership with things like Genshin Impact has made them loads of money in Japan itself. They have done advertising campaigns and have pretty much had a ton of Chinese RPGs make headway in japan.

None of the articles ever bring up just how much Sony has invested in things like Macross/Robotech and a ton of shit that Bandai/Namco have as IPs. Tales of series has all it's anime and music owned by sony.

At this point in the culture war, you don't have any main feminist target like a Sakressian or a Zoe Quinn, you have all 3 companies including Nintendo doing diversity bullshit because that's the current corporate trend that's on it's way out, and if history is anything to go by none of this will have an effect on the long term. Most of these devoted culture warriors attitudes change daily because they're just looking for outrage clicks and are not different from their polar opposites. Fuck when Netflix gets praised by getting fucking Jojo and all is forgiven you know the whole thing doesn't have any teeth.

Also EDF doesn't have a release date or a system announced because they're understaffed and people left the company. D3 isn't a big company. They have a little over 20 employees. The game is in development hell due to corona.

People with talent will move on. eg. The glut of indie dev teams formed by ex-AAA dev, and older AAA devs taking early retirement. Meanwhile, Bungie, Blizzard, and Bioware are all basically just names with none of the people who made them good.

There was no real organized movement to pressure Japanese creators. You had some articles and literal who's from twitter but it had no real backbone or structure to it. I'd consider Netflix far higher on the corporate political activism scale since they're staffed and funded by the Obamas, but people were literally willing to sweep Masters of the Universe thing under the rug because they're putting out Stone ocean.

This in many instances has been the more common outcome in the culture war.

The Satanic Panic was a much weaker version than that, and this current incarnation is a whole lot weaker than the Satanic Panic. Especially since there's now more movement away from neo-liberalism ever since people saw skydiving Afghanis.


We're pretty much at the tail end of it, I'm not seeing anyone really demanding more of the same or to double down. You may get skirmishes that may occasionally erupt, but in general it's going to fade away.

I mean if you really want to put the screws to them, you need to end affirmative action.

PS5 is already failing heavily in Japan (and this is not a console war thing, the Xbox failing in Japan just isn't newsworthy) and more and more devs are focusing on the Switch, even PC to some extent.

I saw a funny post on 2ch a while back I wish I had archived, but it basically read "The Switch is for normal people, Series X is for hardcore gamers, and the PS5 is for psychopaths."

Except here's the thing the PS5 is not failing in China or any of the larger asian markets. Those markets buy Japanese games in far larger quantities than Japan itself. And Sony has made major headway into China far more than Microsoft or Nintendo. Half of Genshin Impact's billion dollar+ revenue is from playstation. That's not going to have the effect of turning Japanese developers away from the PS5. Especially since the only time that happens was when the consoles failed in America, China, and Europe. That turned devs away and had games not be produced for every region. When the PSP and Vita stopped it wasn't due to Japanese sales figures it was due to world wide figures, same with the wii-u and saturn. The Japanese Market doesn't determine who gets more Japanese games, the global market does.

The thing is Genshin is just one of many multiplatform games that Sony has backed in regards to China. It's the only one that's had success internationally at this point but they really do push advertising them hard and every flyer and poster has a PS4 and PS5 logo prominently featured on it. Microsoft is starting their own version with the same monetization, but it's based on the three kingdoms. The thing is however Sony will eventually have entire anime series developed to push a game. Their whole set up with anime companies is very interesting once you start digging through it. It's also generated quite a bit of cash already from the mobile games divisions just due to tie-ins. Effectively they could out market their competition just due to advertising. I know in Central and South America they're making a tag line that says that they're The #1 Name in Japanese Entertainment for whenever the new website comes up for their merged streaming service since they discontinued the regional versions.

China and Korea do play a lot of single player RPGs. It's sizable enough that Square and Falcom have already begun advertising for 2022 titles.

All I'm hoping to get out of this is something that's on par with 16 bit console war media campaigns.

Sure, I don't know, but I can tell you they aren't movie games with trans protagonists. If Sony wants to do business in China selling them shitty f2p games that's perfectly fine by me, I'm just saying that China bumping up Sony's PS5 wordwide sales figures isn't going to provide a new market to sell their big budget exclusives or anything else if they let the "SJWs" take control. Replacing lost Japanese domestic sales with new Chinese sales won't encourage a move towards more "diversity" and all that, but the exact opposite.

There are a billion people in China, someone will play anything. But historically China is dominated by PC (and knock-off pirate consoles and now phones) and F2P games like Crossfire, League, Dota and a bunch of their own MMOs that I don't even know the names of. Even Jim Ryan said this:

Also I don't know the numbers on this, but income disparity is HUGE in China, and you have a few million people buying any status symbol. That initial sellout won't necessarily lead to strong continuing sales because the average working family is still much poorer than in the US, Europe or Japan.

That's true income disparity is huge in China, you don't even have places that have running or clean water.

However the one thing they still do regardless of financial situations is gamble. Like Rich or Poor they'll gamble just the same.

Those Sony Japanese External Development articles seem to be missing the fact that they actually never stopped external development in japan in the first place. It's known that they check in when they have an exclusive or a timed exclusives to see updates on the project. Which is what External Development is. All they're doing is expanding what they had and it's still not too dissimilar to what they did with their European branches when they gutted and reorganized them.

The future on RPGs on the switch doesn't look too bright when nobody cares that Xenoblade 3 got pushed back severely and all they can talk about is Arceus and how Gamefreak is fully redeemed. Literally everything else will be ignored in the wake of Pokemon just like the fate of Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei. It's most certainly looking like if the game wasn't part of the Original Nintendo IPs established when Yamauchi was around, you just have these Iwata dick riders who coast along on a subpar product because of Nostalgia. But then again none of the Nintendo CEOs ever matched up to Yamauchi because he had far more ambition and drive.

That and the idea that Sony could make an arena fighter with all it's anime IPs for EVO gets people upset that they would dare offer serious competition to Smash brothers. But they have all the legal rights to put the likes of Dragon Maid and Demon Slayer together. Granted we're at the very least a year away from the first wave appearances of their anime dealings as far when it comes to games. But their partnership with Kadokawa has apparently been going very well that's it's rumored to greatly expand in the future.

My theory on what he's trying to do with this whole Soulja Game and "I own Atari" bullshit is him desperately trying to stay relevant. Soulja hasn't been relevant since his middle school zoomer fans grew the fuck up and stopped listening to his rapidly-aging style of rap. In that video he talks about the mansion he has, shows all the bitches he's got over, and tries to get us to believe that he's doing fine, but he's not. All the hoes, money, drugs, and material possessions in the world don't hold a candle to the attention he got when his coked-out ass made Crank That. That song was the peak of his entire career, now it's all slowly dying out. He's out of the spotlight and he hates it, he hates not getting attention on a such a massive scale, so all of this drama is him pitifully trying to be noticed and talked about again. He's doing it with the subtlety of a freight train chugging straight into an atomic bomb if you ask me.
