How a current-year Duke Nukem would be? How could they ruin it?
(Un) lucky for us, we don't have to speculate.

I forget which version of the game it was. What I do remember is Gearbox pulled a complete pack everybody liked, messed with the engine in a way fans didn't like, and put a bunch of woke garbage in the new expansion. Source: Whatever version of Duke Nukem 3D it was.

Gameplay would chase every trend in game design over the time it was made. Source: DNF

Finally, the plot would feature Duke as washed up, outdated, and anachronistic while strong female characters upstage him at every opportunity. Source: Game journos speculating on what a new Duke plot would look like in current year in the 2010s, and all the ways films have devolved.

Some of the devs that made Duke 3D made a retro Build Engine shooter called Ion Fury that, while fantastic, has the most boring protagonist in classic shooter history, Shelly "Bombshell" Harris.

She was more visually interesting in the shitty game before with her robot arm and weird haircut.

At the time of release, maybe. But these days a "buff chick with a side shaved haircut and a robot arm" could only be more cliche if her hair was dyed purple and the game was set in World War 2.

The Valve Deck looks like a pretty cool console. I can see why the prices are what they are, and I’d like to buy one right now if I had the money for it.

That is, of course, when I remember that I have a Steam account but have no games on there.

It works like a regular PC outside the SteamOS, so you're free to install any software or store front or pirated games you like. You can even install a different operating system if you'd like.

I'm not buying this fucking gimmick because the last thing my life needs is more excuses to play video games, but I did check on that when I saw the announcement because it would've been a deal breaker were it tied to Steam. I stay away from consoles for a reason. Luckily Valve seems to have a very "muh PCMR" attitude about it, good for them.

Also I would want the model with the scratch-resistant glass and the bigger SSD, and suddenly it's 700€...
