Can I get some context? Because this just looks like a couple of devs leaving to do their own thing to me.
If it isn't proof that Sony is abandoning it's Japanese fanbase, I am sure Moira will find some way to defend this decision

Sony refused to renew the contracts of several Japanese devs in studio and given how PS5 had nothing of value as launch titles for Japan and their censorship of Japanese titles you have a narrative spun by weebs that Japanese devs are jumping ship while PS5 becomes a console for Resetera tranniesCan I get some context? Selling through their entire playstation 5 stock with all major Japanese devs set to release a game within a year timeframe doesn't usually mean bad times are ahead, especially when they're making a deal to get Crunchyroll and we're going on 3 years of this policy with no major shakeups.don't forget the whole "have to go through california for any approval" which is apparently a thing to, to the point nip devs have to communicate everything in english.
also sony being retarded when they think they're on top is nothing new, and at least in the past they had somewhat competent people in charge to change course if need be. gonna have to wait and see how it goes from here now.
Didn't those guys last games bomb like hell though?Sony refused to renew the contracts of several Japanese devs in studio and given how PS5 had nothing of value as launch titles for Japan and their censorship of Japanese titles you have a narrative spun by weebs that Japanese devs are jumping ship while PS5 becomes a console for Resetera trannies
And like Moira points out big Jap games are coming and Sony just bought CR so doesn't look like they're abandoning the Weeb market to me.Selling through their entire playstation 5 stock with all major Japanese devs set to release a game within a year timeframe doesn't usually mean bad times are ahead, especially when they're making a deal to get Crunchyroll and we're going on 3 years of this policy with no major shakeups.
It's bad when a system has no games and that's a sign of things changing but that hasn't happened to Playstation 4 or 5, but NISA got paid money to possibly switch Trails in the Blue Trails of Azure to a ps5 release instead of PS4, because PS5 is getting Disgaea 6 with all the DLC on disc on a special PS5 edition. Also Final Fantasy 16 may be released sooner rather than later. So you're getting releases from large and small developers and publishers.
Volcano High may be vaporware at this point too.
If you care about smaller devs form japan that's entirely NISA's department at this point, the west is what makes the most money and getting a publishing deal with them usually makes any game generate more incame than if it stayed in japan. XSeed had success with Rice and Ruin and it seems they're even changing course to get more of those types of games because shit like Senran kagura and Jet Girls didn't even sell as well as Rice and Ruin did.
As far as the people leaving to make their owns studio, that tends to happen but it can't be a good thing or a bad thing until their first game is put out. Like Don Bluth leaving Disney wasn't the death knell of Disney. The Ico team people tend to take ages to put out a new game though. So we will probably be in to 3 years of the PS5's lifecycle until we first see the game. You could even look at Platinum, after they left Capcom it became very apparent that they needed someone to act as an editor because many of their games they released were bad to lukewarm and the quality games only happened when a larger company put their foot down and gave them standards to meet.
Isn't it slaughtering the XSX though? Doesn't look like we're in for drastic change.don't forget the whole "have to go through california for any approval" which is apparently a thing to, to the point nip devs have to communicate everything in english.

They're a streaming platform who owned the assorted rights to a gorillion anime series, now sony has the rights to them by buying out CR and apparently this extends to getting a cut from their game and merch sales as well.CrunchyRoll is not the weeb market if their outcries against the site is anything to go by.
It's outselling the XSX in japan 5 to 1 and in America it's 3 to 1. if it was going to be a PS3 disaster, those numbers would be reversed.Isn't it slaughtering the XSX though? Doesn't look like we're in for drastic change.
Only normalfags pay for streaming. I stand by my statement. They're a streaming platform who owned the assorted rights to a gorillion anime series, now sony has the rights to them by buying out CR and apparently this extends to getting a cut from their game sales as well.
That's probably the outcome they want, it looks like they're just going to roll Crunchyroll into it's larger anime holdings and the name is just going to exist for the App.Only normalfags pay for streaming. I stand by my statement.
Besides, didn't Crunchyroll shit the bed with their finances? I imagine Sony will just take the name and rights then shutter the company. If they're smart anyways.
Oh, I'm sure they got initial investment paid off, but I mean they spent it very dumb. That's probably the outcome they want, it looks like they're just going to roll Crunchyroll into it's larger anime holdings and the name is just going to exist for the App.
The App has a few million in downloads on both the PS5 and XSX so the initial set up seems to have paid off. The viewer data they will get from what people watch will more than likely translate into more games being brought over if a series has significant viewership.
My understanding is that they plan on gutting CR and having AP and funi people oversee it.Oh, I'm sure they got initial investment paid off, but I mean they spent it very dumb.
They bought big offices they didn't need and expanded when they shouldn't, not only that they financed their own studio failures that never saw the light of day and actually cost them subscribers over. Either way, I'm hoping they fire all the cancerous employees of Crunchyroll when they do finally acquire it because the kinds of people they had that tried to make that Magical Spice(?) show were the kinds of people that don't know how to make money and only know how to waste it for ideological purposes. Even Cartoon Network shut down Thundercats Roar.
I don't mind Aniplex, but Funimation doesn't inspire confidence either. They're of the same breed to Crunchyroll, only not as financially stupid. My understanding is that they plan on gutting CR and having AP and funi people oversee it.
High guardian Spice more than likely will make a very interesting episode of Defunct Land's lost media episodes.
Funimation exists to pump the physical discs out.I don't mind Aniplex, but Funimation doesn't inspire confidence either. They're of the same breed to Crunchyroll, only not as financially stupid.

Bruh he was just pointing out that Sony is still putting weeb games on the thing and that Sony bought CR so they still intend to cater to that demo regardless of Cali's fuck ups.I posted it previously in the thread, but Sony doesn't like small and niche japanese games anymore because muh global sales figures and mass appeal. The big titles (games that can sell just from their brand name alone and published by large veteran companies) and the ones that look more "western" (see: "realistic") in appearance seem to get a free pass from California's rating board, but anything deemed "problematic" are forced to be changed, and considering there are no actual written guidelines it's basically a guesswork from devs to know what's allowed or not within Playstation now. It was also already pointed out by @ZMOT just earlier, but even japanese games that stay within the japanese shores still have to cater to the californian's rule & censorship and write their reports in english exclusively.
There was also the debacle of the X/O buttons being swapped to meet the american standards by default, which has been imposed even to the japanese despite they operate themselves in the more logical sense of X = Cancel/No and O=Confirm/Yes (which is a way of thinking not exclusive to consoles). There might be a way to swap it back but the intent is there.
The PS4 sold poorly in Japan in comparison to the rest of the world (last recorded numbers are ranging around 7.5M for the base PS4 model and 1.5M for the Pro model while Europe and North America registered 47M and 37M in total respectively) hence why Sony shifted the focus to the USA and Europe too.
For the moment, there isn't anything japanese announced on PS5 besides multiplatform titles like Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Atelier Ryza 2, Scarlet Nexus, RGG7 and Nioh Collection you can also obtain on PC and/or Switch. The Switch is more the console hardware of choice if you seek small fun japanese games.
Can't say I'm surprised Marissa Moira is in damage control mode again over the criticism against Sony doing stupid crap on its Playstation brand but he is also shilling NISA, an american localization company also known for its long record of censorship and straight up technical fuck-ups. But I do not expect much from someone, with an 20-months old account recording near 10k posts, to have enough experience about japanese games and that's merely assuming he doesn't shitpost elsewhere than the Kiwifarms.
You may not be aware but the guy has defended (Sony's) censorship multiple times on a couple of threads, on the argument that the affected titles (like the visual novels or ecchi games) deserved to be screwed because none of them were of his personal liking and that those niche games didn't sell millions of copies anyway. Just because some jap games like Eiyuu Densetsu may be still releasing on Playstation doesn't mean everyone there gets the same treatment. He's not really the honest person you should rely as a valid source of information.Bruh he was just pointing out that Sony is still putting weeb games on the thing and that Sony bought CR so they still intend to cater to that demo regardless of Cali's fuck ups.
It's really no different then when Nintendo was the big dog in the early 90s though. And jap devs will still put their shit on the PS5 because it's selling well there and the Switch is weak hardware wise. You may not be aware but the guy has defended (Sony's) censorship multiple times on a couple of threads, on the argument that the affected titles (like the visual novels or ecchi games) deserved to be screwed because none of them were of his personal liking and that those niche games didn't sell millions of copies anyway. There is also the overlooked argument that some jap devs have to neuter themselves during development to have their games published on Playstation and avoid random demands of change (meaning the game has to be delayed in case it happens), even if the games remain exclusive to Japan, which is not a good sign either. Since Sony has yet to make an announcement about getting rid of their unwritten guidelines, it's only fair to assume they're still in effect.
It just proves that when one of the big three gets inevitably too cocky mainly because of a huge lack of competition, stupid crap just happens. It's really no different then when Nintendo was the big dog in the early 90s though. Oneechanbara just got a remake for the PS4 though didn't it? And don't 3rd party games typically sell like shit on Nintendo systems? It just proves that when one of the big three gets inevitably too cocky mainly because of a huge lack of competition, stupid crap just happens.
I don't exactly doubt Square-Enix or Bamco will put some big licenses on PS5 like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest or Gundam but the smaller japanese developers and certain types of game projects will find their way on the Switch instead because it's less of a an headache to develop and publish games there. Like I don't believe D3 Publisher (publisher mainly known for the Earth Defense Force games) will ever put an Omega Labyrinth, Onechanbara or Dream Club on a sony system for instance.
